SOURCE: car has black soot residue near exhaust pipes and

Black soot it due to too much fuel. I would get a compression test, and/or a leak down test done to see what condition your engine is in.

Ford Freestyle - 2006 - Limited. After a 130 mile highway speeds 70 to 85 MPH the vehicle emitted OIL fumes enough to fog the back of the vehicle with a thin film of carbon black and oil file.

It could be a number of things.
Bad head gasket.
Worn rings.
Valve seals or guides or both.
Do a compression check of the cylinders that should help pinpoint the problem.
Hope this helps.

Twin turbo 80 horse power deutz Diesel engine blows black smoke under load

Diesel engines smoke when under a heavy load. Unlike a gas engines, a diesel engine uses fuel that is more like an oil.Smoking is a good indication the fuel is not completly burning because of loaded engine spee. White smoke indicates the fuel is not ignitingefficiently. Truck, boats, tanks abd anything else using diesel fuel will smoke when it gets more fuel than it can use.. Easing up on the throttle will lessen the smoke but not eliminate.. Of coarse if the demand is lessened by applying less loadyhe fuel consumption drops. Not to worry as long as the smoke doesn't attract the EPA.

I just had the engine rebuilt on my 2002 hyundai accent. it is using a quart of oil every 4 or5 days .or around every 300 miles. it is not leakingit, and there is no billowing cloud of smoke. there is...

Let it break in,Some engine rebuilders use diffarent tolerances.Just keep it to the full line and when you change the oil the first time check it for anything out of the ordinary. You may want to try a differant oil all together. What oil is in it now? What weight/brand of oil?

I have a 02 chrysler voyager 3.3 liter, i use 10w30 synethic oil, and its been consuming alot of oil, i have to add a quart in 2 weeks, i only drive 20 miles a week. the garage had checked the valve and...

A quart of oil is a little too much too soon. It seems that the engine needs a change of piston rings, including the oil scrapper rings. To check if you do need this, put a finger in the exhaust pipe when it is cold and rub against the pipe's insides. If your finger comes out black with oily soot then my doubts are confirmed.

Front end shaking on 2004 jetta

Probably the tires. I had the same problem the front end was shaking badly, I had tire with usable tread on them but they were cheap korean tires, I swapped for michelins and the shake went away completely. If the tires are new, have them rebalanced, my wife's car tires were out of balance in only 5,000 miles.

Too rule out mechanical, while on the jack stand, grab the tire on the sides and try to move the wheels side to side. Do the same by grabbin the top and bottom of the tire to see if there is any movement. the movement should be Minimal. If there is a lot of movement, it could be the ball joints or the tie rods. My shake was so bad that this is what I thought was wrong with mine. Glad I changed the tires first.

Car will go dead while driving then restart.has a code in computer for crankshaft position sensor

Mine (quest) would do this at 80 miles per hour with loaded car. Since I keep it at 72, it has not reoccurred. I suggest that the sensor is working fine. There is just a slight engineering problem with my engine that does not produce heat/vibration beyond the calibration of my sensor, as long as I keep the speed down. Fewer traffic tickets also.
