Question about Cars & Trucks
Hi, my bmw X5is 4.6i just yesterday started not registering on the factory oil pressure guage, and hence is causing the variable tachometer to say it redlines at 4000rpm. The oil warning light doesn't come on and I immediately checked there was oil in it. There was so I drove it home(5km) and listend for any abnormal sounds but it sounds fine? I thought it may be the guage but it did ever so slightly register for a bit so I was wondering if oil pressure is a regular problem for my model? It's done 179000km and never missed a service. Thanks, Dane

Check the oil pressure wire attached to the gauge usually in the engine compartment. Dirt can interfere with the signal causing a short which will give you the symptoms you describe. Hope this helps
