Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

Suzuki swift auto tiptronic 2006 when in 1st gear hesitates and then lunges forward and jumps. Gears bang when going down in gears. Went into dealer who reset computer all was great for about a month then the problem started again. Very dangerous at roundabouts/junctions. Took back to dealer cannot find any mechanical problems because no codes are coming up. Ive had the car 4 years done 93,000 km

SOURCE: Auto Transmission 2000 Rodeo

It seems that the trans is slipping. The smell is from excess trans flood. If Trans is over filled, it can rupture seals and cause leaking that can get on the exhaust and burn.

SOURCE: 1998 Chrysler Voyager Transmission problem

FYI, My 99' just had a rebuild put in it $2000. Lent it to family, and even before they left I was worried that mileage etc, was just about time for it to go. I had no warning signs, just something in the back of my mind said "anytime now". They made it to their destination 3 or 4 hours away, no problem all the way, then next morning running into town for groceries, spit, sputter clank, bang, done ! Piece came right out through the top of the transmission casing , big hole & a gear laying on top of the casing. Needless to say, they felt bad, but I just had a premonition it was time. That's why when those things act up, don't play around, get it diagnosed a.s.a.p. Trying to get through the week, can cost you big time. Here's to hoping yours is an easy, inexpensive fix.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Chrysler concord 2.7 v6 auto. I went

hi,
its down on tranny fluid still and probably was just about completely out. check the transmission fluid with the car idling in park, set park brake, check fluid. if it doesent show or barely, add ONE quart of fluid. restart and check where the level is. and 1/2 cups at a time now. keep doing this untill the fluid is at the top mark, be careful and dont overfill it. This could be signs of a new problem or a leak. park it on a piece of cardboard overnight and look at the cardboard in the morning. study where its leaking, tighten the hose or it may need a new gasket. buy a haynes or chilton manual for the car and study how to put a pan gasket off and on , its easy but it takes time and patience. the transmission is the weakness in these models of cars. dont drive it untill you put more fluid in it or take it into a tranny shop if your unsure.

read the owners manual on the operation of a tiptronic box. It will probably state that the manual selection of the box is for keeping the gear box in set gears to prevent unnecessary gear changing. So when going down hill select a gear manually and that will use the engine braking capability instead of up shifting as the rpms increase
It is fun to use the tiptronic as a manual box but that is not the real purpose of the transmission design.. IT is to lock the transmission into certain gears to prevent unnecessary up and down shifting of the transmission

I have a 91 suzuki swift auto. I can manually select all gears but it will not change automatically. It seems to be stuck in top gear.

You may have an issue with the solenoid. This is the one that selects the gear for you. It is found inside the transmission and has wires coming out of it. It may be just dirty or needs repelacement.

2000 Audi A6 tiptronic 2.5tdi. Gearbox warning light on, no 5th

You need to give the car a scan, preferably with VCDS (or VAS at a dealer). If limp mode is activating (lit up gear selections), then it will be storing codes.
The fact that it works to a degree could be good news, the gear box has likely not failed. Could be the F125 selector switch, which is a common fail at this age.

Car gear change - Suzuki Swift

Look this is a tough issue please rate it at least a helpful, here it is, you may have a worn rail in the gear box shifter parts, many times these loose parts will allow the trans to get into the wrong gear or try to go into 2 gears at once, replace the shifter parts inside the trans and I will bet the issue goes away.
