I recently, 5 days ago, finally got the major oil leak probs in my Jeep fixed. I had been sitting in my garage for about 6 months. When I went to take it for a test run, the clutch was extremely tight and sticking, so we sprayed it pretty well with lubricant. It seemed to be working just fine. I drove it around for a few days, but got in this morning and the clutch totally hit the floor. It has no resistance and is not engaging at all. I checked the fluid and it is totally full. What else should I be looking for?
Thanks-
Amber
1992 Jeep wrangler....I just put in a clutch and rebuilt transmission last night. the clutch seemed to release at aprox 1 inch from floor. when I drove it home last night i couldn't get it to go into second unless i came to complete stop, then at red light it wouldn't go into any gear. i pumped the pedal and it became firmer and them went into gear, except reverse had trouble at first. is it a bleeding prob or master clutch cylinder, how can you tell?
SOURCE: The clutch in my 92 Jeep Wrangler suddenly stopped working.
Checkunder the dash and make sure that the pedal has not torn off the bellcrank. Check the actuator rod as well. It is possible that the master for the clutch has internally failed and is bypassing but usually if this happens it will pump up, but sometimes not. Also, check for leaks...If it just failed, it may not have leaked enough to empty the master yet. There are other items that could have failed, but these are comon. Any questions along the way just ask!!
SOURCE: does a 1994 jeep wrangler have a ballast resister
Pretty sure it does...if you have one it should be on the fender or firewall near the master cylinder. It's about three inches long made of ceramic. with a wire connector on both ends.
SOURCE: how do I test the ballast resister on my 1995 jeep
The Multimeter has several functions. It test voltages [a/c, d.c. (+ plus, - minus)], then the RESISTANCE test to test 'ballast resistors". If the tester has a on-off switch, make sure that the scitch is OFF. If you can disconnect one side of the resistor, do so !! Place (+plus) side of probe on DISCONNECTED side, turn meter ON, place other side of probe (- minus)on other side of resistor. You should mesure the resistance you see written on the ballast. IF YOU CAN'T DISCONNECT ONE SIDE, just follow the same rules WITHOUT DISCONNECTING one side.
NOTE:: Rustyrooster, what Salkim08 said is true, but he simplifed it. Connected to the ballast on either side or both sides is a circukt (ckt.) that could effect the measurement.
