do you hear the starter turning the engine over?
If so does it sound like it is turning over faster than normal?
Have you checked the timing belt?

Have you checked for spark?

If you can not hear the starting turning the engine over....
1. have you checked your oil lately?
2. have you tried turning the engine over by hand?
3. Have you checked to see if there is power to the starter?

If it only happens when while cranking its possible that the starter gear is failing to engage with the flywheel all the way. Have the starter tested. If the pinging sound comes after you release the key from the cranking position it is still possible that the starter solenoid is having issues or the spring for the starter gear is bad, Either way I would have the starter tested. Worst case is the teeth on the flywheel are toast.

My Jeep cherokee not starting after removal of flywheel. Is there a specific way to install the flywheel?

The teeth on the flywheel need to be close enough for the starter motor to catch them when it engages. If you removed it and now the starter just free-spins when starting then you may have installed the flywheel backwards and the starter motor cannot reach the teeth on the flywheel. If its making a loud grinding or pinging sound you may need to manually turn the engine a bit to align the flywheel.

hi, i would recommend that you check the starter first if the vehicle doesn't cranck over, try hitting it with a hamer and try to start it, you can also remove it and take it to an auto part store and they can test it for you, make sure you unplug the battery first to avoid sparks and circuit shorts, also be aware of the way the wiring is so you can put it back the way it goes...

Nothing at all happens when I turn it over. Battery is fine

Make sure battery cables are clean and tignt. If no help, tap the starter with a ball-ping hammer while your partner turns over the ignition. If it does start -bad starter.

If when you turn the key to start and the solenoid wire (small wire) gets current, check and make sure you have a good ground. If you do the starter is bad. Replace the starter and your problem will be solved.

I have a lincoln mk lll won't start when key is on

That should be easy for you. Ign sw,safety sw,ballast resistor if you have one,bad ground at coil. How about starter solenoid wires on wrong terminals. Did the old starter work as wired now!! How about a schematic to make this go away quicker. Iam a 60's guy also like the mk111 . Wife has a 2004 LS
