SOURCE: how do i replace a broken hood latch cable 2002 toyota camry

its more fiddly than hard before you start look st the cable where it joins the latch and start following it back toward the lever you may have to lift some floor mats etc and the cable should be secured with clips along the way if you think you can get it out take it with you when you go to buy the new 1 and make sure they are the same. if this helps please rate joe

SOURCE: 99 toyota corrolla hood latch is broken. Can't

There is a rachet right below the hood that you can reach from radiator grill.
Take a long thin screw driver, reach it and turn that rachet.
You will hear the "click" sound and the hood will pop open.

have you lubricated the mechanism? They all need it. Go to a salvage yard and get a used latch assembly. Keep it lubed.

If the Interior hood latch and cable are broken how do you open the hood of a 2004 Saturn ion

Good question hard problem .
The cable is likely not broken just streched so now the level inside the vehicle can't travel enough to pull the cable far enough to pop the latch.
You need to remove the cable from the inside level eighter by removeing the int. lever and slideing the cable out it has a little drum at the end of the cable that fits into the lever .If you can get the cable out you can take a pair of vice grips and pull the cable the hood should pop if the isn't broken or frozen inside the jacket.
Try to save the cable if you can you can put spacers at the hood latch end I have used cable ties to do this take up the slack .
But the cause of the problem is the hood lacth lack of lubericant you will need to clean it get it moveing freely again and lub .it with white lithium greese .It comes in a spray can .Do all door hinges strickers and latches every few year and they will last longer and not give you problems .

My alarm keeps going off. Last year I had the hood latch repaired. And it worked for 1 yr, 1 mth. I would rather disarm the alarm than pay another $200 for another hood latch. Where is the fuse that...

I've had same problem. Dealer refused to replace hood latch under their extended warranty despite the Toyota Bulletin on the problem. I just DISCONNECTED the hood latch sensor. To get to the hood latch get under the plastic covering over the hood latch by removing the plastic retaining buttons attaching the cover to the frame. Do this by using a sharp edge to pull up the center piece of the retaining buttons, which then lets the outer button pop out. After you get under the plastic cover find the wire coming out of the latch assembly (not the latch release cable you used to open the hood). The sensor wire couples with other wires for the alarm right there. Just disconnect it. The dealer said I may not be able to lock by car as a result of disconnecting the hood latch sensor. But that hasn't happened, and the alarm hasn't gone off since.

Toyota rAV 4 HOOD WONT OPEN

Hi moiramarydow, if the hood release cable is not broken, you could get a helper to push down on the hood at front center over the latch to relieve pressure of latch while you pull the hood release , if it opens ,grease it good.......if the cable i mentioned is broken ,you will need a new one but in the meantime to open it i have done this: look into the front of the grille with a brite light around hood latch of course, and locate the release, you can I D it by the small cable coming from it, trip the latch to open, in other words you have to do what that cable does by hand, use any tool you can to reach it and get leverage on it,, being careful not damage any thing in the process like the radiator or condensor. good luck . OK!!

Hood won't latch completely. Cable has no tension. I have a 2001 Toyota 4 Runner. I'm afraid that it may fly open completely when I'm driving freeway speeds. Can anyone help?

The hood latch is one mechanism controlled by a spring. The cable is another mechanism to pull the latch. Open the hood to inspect the latch. If the spring of the latch itself is good then you don't have to worry about this after you close it. However you have to worry how to open it since the cable is not working. The cable has no tension due to a broken end. Need to replace the cable. The latch has 2 positions halfway and full way when closed. To have a peace of mind, have it halfway latched then tie a string from the hood latch to the grill for temporary until replacing the cable.

2008 Toyota Highlander alarm goes off for no reason--unhook battery cable to stop it

You most likely have a bad hood latch switch you can unplug this switch until you get it repaired to stop the alarm from going off.
