SOURCE: motor mounts

The mounts can be a pain because of how and where they're located (believe me though, it's worse on a TT because the turbos and hardware are right in the way). With some dexterity, you can do it one side at a time with the engine in the car.

You'll want the car in the air, preferably on ramps, with a jack to support the engine. You're on track with raising the engine, and you will be able to do so at least to some extent. There is no flexpipe section on the Z's exhaust, so you will be limited in what you can do - you won't be able to move the engine very much, because the only play in the exhaust's movement is what is allowed by the hangers. You could unbolt the catback section from the cats/resonators, and that will gain you some movement as well.

To get a little more of a clear shot at the top nuts, use a swivel and long extensions to reach down, and on the passenger side of the intake plenum you'll see some connectors on a bracket bolted to the side of the plenum. These are connections for the passenger side oxygen sensor and for the AIV system. You can unbolt that bracket and move it and the connectors out of the way, and maybe you'll get a little more room to work. On the driver's side it's not so easy because the main bulk of the engine bay harness runs down that side, tucked just under the edge of the plenum, and it runs very close to the fender. Still, you may be able to gain a little room by unbolting the fuel filter and its bracket from the fender and pulling them out of the way. Again, swivels and long sockets will help.

If you want to do some disassembly, you could pull the radiator and front bumper off the car (neither are very tough to do), and working around the AC condenser, you might be able to reach in from the front to access the top nuts. It's probably going to be less hassle though to do as you are, and try to reach them from above.

Hopefully this will work for you - let me know if you have any other ideas you want to bounce around and I'll try to handle them as best I can.

SOURCE: can i fit a turbo skyline engine (rb30) in a nissan sentra 1987

Hi,

Thanks for using FixYa.

The answer is... Yes you can... All it requires is patience and skills. You'd need to squeeze the engine in your car. This might require you to cut some chassis parts in your engine bay just to accommodate such big and powerful engine. Best wishes with the engine swap buddy.

Thanks. Have a good one.

All Interference, engine. An interference engine is one that has insufficient clearance between the valves and pistons if the cam stops turning due to a broken timing belt. The result is usually catastrophic engine failure. God-Bless!
