Question about 1997 Honda Accord

1 Answer

2004 Buick LeSabre transmission was working great. Then after driving approx. 50miles last week it started jerking or hard shifting. Fluid level was fine. when car was shut off and restarted, the shifting was fine again and drove home with no problems. Yesterday drove about 20 miles and all of a sudden it started the hard shifting again. Shut it off and restarted car and shifting was fine once more. Any idea what I should be checking? Thanks for any info.

Make sure the trans cooler is getting a good air flow. and a trans flush is always good, and most oil change shops do it for around $89+

SOURCE: shifting problem

One solution could be the break/safety solenoid. Make sure that the break/safety solenoid is clicking. If it isn't clicking, the AT gear shift is not going to move. If the break/safety solenoid isn't working you can get around it by releasing the AT gear shift with a key on top of base of the steering wheel, but (WARNING) you will have no break lights. I repeat NO BREAK LIGHTS.

SOURCE: Car wont start after shut off

Probably your distributor cap or rotor, also check the spark plugs and spark plugs wires. This may happen when , after a certain amount of time, the distributor becomes to hot, or the wires, and then a huge resistance is built. Did you notice that on a long distance your car would shut off than you have to let it cool down before it starts back ? On oldder cars it's a pretty common problem.

SOURCE: 95 honda accord turns over but wont start

Sometimes when a fuel filter is stopped up,and you change it,the fuel pump later, will go out, cause of the strain on the pump.

Transmission jerks in gear change

Trans jerk is a sign of wear and tear. You don't say how many miles its done? Is the trans fluid level correct? When was it last serviced? Have you asked a good home mech/garage to ride with you to see fault?

Buick lesabre transmission will not go into gear unless engine is high rpm then it jerks into gear and works fine it is worse when 1st started morning

Check your transmission fluid level. By putting it into gear at high RPM, you're forcing it and may be really damaging your transmission. The car needs to be running when you check your dipstick (its the red handled one.)

Transmission seems to be very sluggish. Will not shift in drive after it warms up, will only redline and will move at approx. 20 mph

Check your transmission fluid levels. Also if you have not had the transmission serviced in the last 35.000 miles. It might be time for transmission flush and filter replacement.

I have a buick lesabre 1997 when i drive long way the transmation gets hot and start ripping and i have to put it in lower gear

If you mean your transmission starts slipping. First thing you should always do. Check your transmission fluid levels, if your transmission fluid is low, use the proper amount of fluid right away. If this takes care of the problem, then I would highly recommend keeping a close eye on your transmission fluid levels from now on. Always keep plenty of Dextron 3 automatic transmission fluid on hand so you can top of the transmission if the dip stick is showing the slightest indication that your getting low. Fluid levels should touch the top line on the dip sticks level indicator. For best result check the transmission fluid levels when you first start the engine up for the day.

If it's been 35.000 miles since your transmission was last serviced, it may be due time to have a transmission flush and filter replacement.

Take care of the problem now, while you have a chance of saving the transmission, so it will not lead to costly replacement.
