Question about 2003 Renault Megane

1 Answer

My Laguna 1.9 dci 2002 broke down yesterday. The ignition will not fully come on, my wipers are half across the screen as it was raining, but the electric windows work. There are no illuminated ignition lights. Has anyone had this problem before. Thanks Barry

Check the main fuses under the bonnet and also if iam correct here a relay ? yes do a lot on these cars but i do find i get weird electrical faults mainly caused by corrosion in this fuse box on the fuse feet .Mainly on cars that have been brought to spain from the northern parts of europe ,If the electrics were as good as the mechanicals on this car then it would a winner

SOURCE: renault laguna sports tourer 1.9 dci wont start

Try the relays under the bonnet fuse box 4 small black ones in a line, the first 2 from top cut of the fuel pump, and are a renowned cause of 85% of cranking without starting faults on the dci engine swap them over for the bottom 2 .
If it starts, buy 2 from Renault and fit
if the engine still fails to start the egr valve may be stuck closed starving the engine of air, its on the top of the engine at the air intake and has 3 bolts, remove it and clean it with carb cleaner then check its condition, if it appears ok, replace the cleaned one, if not you need a new one or the turbo will blow its seals and the engine will rev and burn on the engines own oil.
beyond this and your diy fixes are at an end without a obd2 code reader.

Wipers won't lie down when off

The self parking mechanism in the wiper motor assembly has failed, most likely the "emf brake" built into the motor itself. If the self parking microswitch was broken (another common fault) then the wipers would simply keep running until the ignition was turned off.

The only solution is to either get an auto electrician to see if the motor assembly can be repaired or to replace the entire wiper motor. Repair is probably the better option as it's an expensive part.

My automatice wiper won't turn off on thier own

It has auto wiper control. Yank your wiper stick 1 notch down. The windshield should be free of rain droplets or else it would think it is still raining and operate it in auto mode. In auto mode it will shut off when it doesn't sense rain droplets on the windshield or removing the key from the ignition. Once it is off, it can only operate in auto mode by moving the lever 1 notch up while raining. Yours must be in the 1st speed manual selected position of the lever. Every time the ignition is switched on the wiper operates regardless until key is removed from the switch.

2003 1.9 dci laguna starts fine but lost power an is smoking, not oil though id guess unburnt fuel????

Hi,
I'm not sure of the unburned fuel thing, but if you suspect this, check for fire at the spark plugs.
If you pull the plugs out for this inspection, also notice if any are black sooted and greasy. You might have a broken piston ring.

Wiper Motor Problem!

this is not a fix but might keep you alive if you get stuck in the rain again. try Rain X you wipe it on your windshelid then wipe it off. water just slides off and fast. I have used the stuff for ten years now.
