Will the oil sensor switch shut the engine down

Well, yes and no.
If the red oil pressure light comes on, yes the engine could stop running. You could actually lose oil pressure, or the switch could fail.
A "change oil" notice would not cause the engine to stop.

Oil light comes on, loses power, stalls, restarts but engine very rough, oil level is fine but oil is very hot, smokes

Check for trouble codes. Smoke out where? out the exhaust? Do a compression test to check internal mechanical condition. Low compression would likely mean expensive engine repairs, no easy fixes. If the oil light comes on well before the engine loses power, have the oil pressure tested on a gauge. Low oil pressure could be a bad oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings, or a blockage in the oil passages throughout the engine, or a clogged pick-up tube and screen in the crankcase. How long do you want to keep whipping that achieva, Mark? Might be time to look for another pony !

My 2002 ford F150 is losing oil

Open hood, look everywhere,if not at top of motor, get under vehicle and look and you should see and follow,if you need to get a mirror for a better view.Check by oil filter, oil pressure switch, valve cover.rear oil seal.If no leaking, then maybe it's burning oil,any smoke.

I keep losing oil pressure when im at an idle but when i acc. the pressure comes back up and i have checked the oil it is fine

What is the make/model of the Jeep? What engine? Are you losing pressure completely or is it just low at idle? Many older Jeeps show little oil pressure at idle when the engine is warm. If you aren't hearing rattling like you are actually losing oil pressure, and the pressure comes up when you accelerate, you are probably OK.

I have a 2001 oldsmobile alert 3.4L engine and I'm

If you are losing that much oil then and that close to the start it sounds like the Rear Main Seal is bad. The rear main seal is right where the trans and the motor connect which is right close to the starter location. Jack the vehicle up in the air, if you can see where the engine and the transmission connect, drops of oil then the issue is coming from there.

Another thing to do, is to get some degreaser, spray the bottom of the engine, let the degreaser work and then wash off the bottom of the motor. By doing this you will be able to tell better where the leak is actually coming from.

Have you had your oil changed recently?

Would a loose valve cover bolt cause an oil pump to lose pressure

Not unless you were leaking huge amounts of oil. Low oil pressure is from worn clearances on the engine bearings or a weak or restricted oil pump.

My 2000 toyota corolla has been losing at least 2 quarts of oil betweem my 3000 mile oil change most times I am down 1-2qrts between oil changes & I have to put oil in .I have had the entire oil pan...

You need to determine where the oil is being lost. Open the hood and look for traces of oil. Place a clean piece of cardboard under the car and idle the engine - at the rate you are losing oil, you should see where the oil is dripping onto the cardboard within a few minutes, then work upward from there. Possibilities: Crankshaft seal (passenger side of engine), valve cover gasket (top of engine), main seal (driver side of engine). Any of these can go bad, far many reasons.

Engine oil get less every two weeks in my pajero 4m40

Diesels do lose a little oil out the blow-by tube. If the engine temp. is higher then normal then you will lose more then normal amounts. If you are not leaking it then you are burning it, Possibly worn rings, head-gasket, or oil leak inside turbo. 68 MPH and higher doesn't sound unusual, is the engine still stock?

Loses oil pressure

Have u verified the oil pressure with a mechanical guage? this may just be a sending unit, if the engine had no pressure the lifters would be rattling like crazy at idle.
