Car dies won't restart. cranks over, has full battery, lights etc but acts like it is not getting gas. towed three or four times to GM dealership and they hook it up to computer and find nothing. No codes...


Is it fuel related or what . when it wont restart have you tried spraying some stater fluid in it for 3 seconds to see if it starts. If it starts and goes dead it will be fuel related. Do this test a couple of times and you should get the same results. If it doesnot not it will be electrical. Distributor is what i would replace first. or coil .Good Luck!!!

I was given a 1990 Legacy sedan. Obviously it needs work. It does start and run but dies when the rpms drop after revving. I analyzed the codes and it is telling me there are 8 errors! Crank angle sensor...


something is wrong
if there is no signal from the cam or crank sensors , it will not start or run
maybe the scan tool is not operating correctly
if it starts then idles then dies , that could be the maf sensor

2002 Cadillac Deville 4.6 L engine is surging at idle. Car parts shop checked code with portable analyzer. Codes were P0171 and P0174. Manual that I have states "fuel trim system lean(bank 1)" for both...


i have a feeling the problem is not the sensors, they are reading lean indicates that air is getting into the engine around monitored system, basically a vacuum leak, which causes surging, also get a real time engine monitor not just a code scanner, some even have snapshot capabilities that will freeze the readings when something abnormal happens, just don't go replacing parts without knowing why

Don't know if this will answer it. O2 sensors send info to the computer to make adjustments to the emissions system. Over time the O2 sensors fail which cause the computer to light the "Check engine" light. Originally the "Check engine" light was dedicated to an emission system fault. Now manufactures use it for a variety of abnormalities. To know what the "check engine" light means you have to either take it to a mechanic or buy a OBDII scanner (around $100) and read the code yourself. I like to read my own codes. These scanners are good for all modern cars. Instructions are included EZ to follow.
Long story short, don't worry about it the check engine light will come on when O2 sensor fails. Happy motoring!

I have 8000 miles on my Tucson check engine light came on at start up this morning...gas cap is tight...no problems?????


there are over 200 reasons for the check engine light to come on, the gas tank cap is just one of them, this light and the problem that turned it on are most likely covered under the federal emission warranty, contact the dealer. see trouble code list below for some of the probelems that cause a check enghine light.
