SOURCE: need to replace "check engine" lamp in dash of 2001 Ford Explorer

The easiest way is to actually remove the instrument cluster. You would have to have teenie tiny hands to get to the bad bulb from underneath/behind/and up to the bulb.

It is really not that difficult to remove the dash. If you go to your library you can take a look at a Chilton's or Haynes manual...or better yet, just invest in one from a parts store and it will tell you how to do it step by step.

SOURCE: knocking in the bottom of ford 5.4 liter engine

If you hear it knocking no bearing replacement is going to fix that long term. Its best to pull it, the crank shaft will have to be turned or polished and or replaced, weather its a rod or a maine, and posibly line boared if its a maine thats knocking. Do it right and pull it.

I have a 2001 cadilac deville that has a wicked knock in the engine. it is a rod knock (from the sound) so i figure my options are to change the engine, or change the rod ect. I wanna know if the engine...

Thats going to be a tricky pull. you can actually do BOTH methods fro pulling that motor. Which ever is easier for you would be better.

As far as the rod knock. Rod knock simply means that the rod bearing has spun and is no longer a smooth surface. potentially, you could pull the motor and replace just that rod and bearing if the crankshaft was unaffected. the majority of the time, more work needs to be done. I think in this case, it may be cheaper to remove the motor and replace the crank and bearings. A replacement used motor will probably run about 1k if you can find one at a yard.

2001 ford ranger oil pan gasket removal?

Remove the engine mount pin and carefully raise the engine yup as far as possible, be sure to use a large block of soft wood like pin under the pan so you won't damage it. Remove all the pan bolts, You do not have to remove the oil pan completely. With the pan lowered, remove the old gasket completely and take the new gasket and pull it around the bottom of the pan an pull it up to the engine. Basically wrap it around the oil pan. It you have the gasket that is plastic with rubber seal inserted in it, it is easier. It has clips that hold it to the pan and stays in place when lifting the pan back to the engine. Also add silicone in the corners on the front and rear bearing caps.

Removing engine mounts to pull engine only

Most mounts have a big bolt through the middle of the the 2 halfs, top and bottom, to make it easier to pull the motor. Just pull the one bolt, and it should be free. Hope this helps.

How to take the engine out?

I have done this a ton a two post lift is a definite helper in this situation as you will most likely have to pull it from the bottom unless you disassemble most of engine to pull from top anyways if you pull from the bottom it is easier to keep engine and trans together remove exhaust and unplug everything that attaches to car remove drive shafts be careful when removing them dont beat on the threaded end you wont be able to get nut back on. support engine and trans and remove driverside mount that goes to trans it is located around or under the battery tray and then remove the passenger side mount you will need to unbolt the three bolts that bolt it to the car and the one big nut that holds to engine. then drop out or set on ground and lift car. remember radiator hoses, intake, fuel lines, battery, starter cables, etc. need to be removed pretty easy once it pretty much done hope this helps you can email me direct for help I also take it that this is a SOHC engine?

on the pass side in the engine compartment on the fire wall you will see an electric motor. unplug the wire connecter and detactch the rubber tube from the main box.then remove the three retaining screws and pull out the motor and fan assembly,if it has cruise control you might find it easier to also remove the acuater from the fender.this is held in place by two 10 mm bolts.just lay it off to the side to give yourself more room
