SOURCE: Geo metro 97. Runs great for a day then wont start the next

Your timing belt is worn out. Some days it runs good because the cogs are lined up. The next time you start it, it maybe backfires just a touch, and it's out of time. Today, it's really out. Or maybe even broken.

1988 geo metro, started making loud grinding noises and wont let me downshift until complete stopped. Sometimes I can downshift to 4th and thats it.

Sounds like a clutch going out. By the way, are you sure it was a 1988? Geos were only made from 1989 to 1997, then became Chevys.

1996 Geo Metro Clutch won't disengage

Hi,

In all likelihood two (2) possibilities:
  • defective clutch cable (most likely); and/or
  • defective clutch fork (least likely).
Should it be the cable, this might be of help. It is turns out to be the fork, you might need the services of a qualified professional or a dealership.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

97 Metro - Downshifting

if you act like you are going to shift into first and before you do you pull back to 2nd or actually put it in first then to 2nd without the clutch. You might check your transaxle oil and also iol your shifter under the boot it can bind there.
