Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I bought a doner truck for parts. In it was what I was lead to believe a 305. The block casting number is 3970010 and the code is k0611cgc. The intake is tb and the number is 14102182. Wasn't able to locate a crank casting number. Please help me decipher what the heck I've got!

The VIN number should tell you all of that if you use the internet to decipher what letter or number to look for to determine engine size etc

the block casting when you are looking at the rear of the engine would be where the bellhousing bolts to the engine on the top-left side of the engine, the head casting should be on the left side head when looking from the back torwards the middle-bottom,and the crank cast should be behind the flywheel on the engine

Are you sure you have the correct engine model number? What is the year and the make of the car? That makes a big difference as the 305 is a later model engine.

That is just the casting number indicating it might be a 4-bolt main 350. You will need the stamped numbers on the block right in front of the passenger side head.

What year is this engine? and ci

From this chart - I think you may be misreading the number - 3970010 is possibly the actual number: Which makes the engine pretty old 68-72 350 V8 - 4 bolt main. I included past this number so that you can see that the number you posted doesn't actually exist. And thus my conclusion that the 9 is most likely a 0. Just wondering What my engine is out of. i bought it as a 350 Chev but not sure exactly if its a 350 or not. engine number KO314CMJ casting number 3970010

Hey spoofy, that is a good block casting...Chevy used that from 1969-1979. The Vette, Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo and Trucks all had this engine. If it's a 4 bolt main, the chances it came out of a Vette are very good. The engine number you give does not cross reference.
I hope this helps.
