SOURCE: broken belt under hood

The belt is need to turn the alternator which is needed to charge the battery, after the battery starts the car the alternator charges the battery, if the belt is not present the alternater has no way to supply the power needed to recharge the battery. You will need to have the belt replaced.

Battery leak helpp

You can clean it with baking soda and water. Does it look wet anywhere? What you see is corrosion from acid that comes out from time to time during the life of the car. It can be normal. If you remove the battery look for wet spots(before you clean it) if none are found and your car seems to be starting ok then you should be ok!

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

Is it easy to replace fuel filter?

Fuel Filters are very simple to change. Changing the filter will probably eliminate a suspect in a rough idle, but may not fix the rough idle. The filter is under the driver's side, next to the frame rail on the inside. You will need some shop rags, a pair of pliers, an adjustable crescent wrench, or a wrench set (I can't remember the exact size) and a plan to bleed off the fuel pressure, unless of course you enjoy spraying your self with fuel.

Disconnect the battery and relieve the fuel pressure. Under the hood there is a pressure releif valve (it's a schrader valve, similar to a valve stem on a tire). You can get a kit at parts store that will capture the fluid or you can use the shop rags and hold them over the valve while you depress the pin. Honestly, I would get the kit. After my last experience changing my filter I wouldn't go any other way.

Once you have relieved the fuel pressure, crawl under the truck and change the filter by loosening the nut on the tank side and with the pliers pinching the release tabs on the the motor side of the filter and remove the filter. Have a couple of shop rags and or a small pan to catch the residual fluid that will drain out of the lines.

Install the new filter and make sure your connections are tight, then make sure all the gas is cleaned up from both under the vehicle and under the hood (if needed spray degreaser and hose off. You don't want gas puddled somewhere in the engine bay.) Make sure your pressure relief kit is removed and the cap covering the relief valve replaced. Reconnect the battery and turn on the key. Let the pump run (the whine you hear when you first turn the key) till it shuts off to build up a little bit pressure then crank the motor to start the truck. The truck will take longer to start than normal as you have emptied the gas lines and so it will take a few cranks to get the truck started. But once the truck is started, make sure there are no leaks in the fuel system. Don't stick your head under the truck in case the you accidently didn't tighten something properly and the minute you stick your head under there it decides to come apart. Just look without sticking your head under the vehicle.

Stop the car as this sounds like a heater core leak which will eventually drain the water from the engine cooling system and sieze your engine
Try undoing the two hoses in the engine bay area going through the fire wall to the passenger side. Thes two hose can be blanked of or even joined to reseal the coolant within the engine untill yuo can have the leak repaired. Note check the coolant level when engine has cooled prior to trying this fix.Hope this helps

Exact location of A/C drain tube

Open hood, near center on firewall at back of engine, below and about midway between the AC lines and steering column, a small rubber "L" nipple should be visible, if not, line is draining under dash at the firewall, if it is, it may be clogged again. Find a mechanic that you trust and have them them clean it out for you.

Hood latch will not open

check the easy way first, get someone to help you, have him to pull the lever below the dash, and you pull the hood up, that should work. There is a small release latch under the hood that isn't getting teh bump to push up on the hood, however, that one is hard to fix. If that doen't work, check the cable running to the lever.
