1997 dodge stratus stalls while driving. Check engine & oil light on. Putting out sensor codes- P0123 & P040. Some times it restarts while coasting or we sit for a while then it may start.

code p 0123 has several references
throttle position (TP) sensor A/accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor A--high input ===causes wiring short to positive -- TP/APP sensor or switch --ECM
also refers to TP/APP --low input==causes wiring short to ground ---TP/APP switch---ECM
with code P040 , I feel that you are missing the last digit or letter
code p0400 > p 0409 all refer to EGR system problems and p 040A >F again refer to EGR system problems
take it to an accredited service center with experience on your make of car and have it properly diagnosed

I have a problem passing. Smog my car is a 2000 regal ls and the code is p040 any help !!!

From what I have been able to find, I would check your EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. Since you are getting a code I would think it would be electronic. Older engines used vacuum ones.

Good luck

Unfortunately, you did not provide a year and a model and I cannot give you a precise response

Translation:

P0040 Upstream Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) Swapped From Bank To Bank

Your heated oxygen sensor is not properly transmitting data to your PCM (onboard computer), You'll need a code scanner that you can borrow for free from AutoZone.

All the best,

Ben

2002 f 150 dc 4.6 L p040 replaced all 4 o2 s jade a few codes whent from p401 now p040 what is going on

You may have your wires switched on the O2 Sensors---PO40
Check out EGR Valve--PO401

Egr may have been your only issue
If you enter air from a source, other than before the MAF Sensor, the PCM can't read it,and the O2's adjust to the vacuum leak

Alway check the basics, and never replace parts based on a code. OBD2 doesn't tell you what is wrong or what to replace.

I got a code P040 on my 2003 corolla toyota corolla. My check engine light is on. so what does all this mean?

P0401 OBD-II Trouble Code
Insufficient EGR Flow

What does that mean?
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.
