When I finished I took my burb around the block for a test run and the speedometer was not working and transmission wouldn't shift. I replaced the vss (vehicle speed sensor) still nothing. Take the filter back off and inspect the wires under it.

SOURCE: Need to change the transmission filter in '99 chevy suburban 2wd.

If it has over 100,000 miles or so, don't do a complete fluid exchange. Drop the pan, change the filter, and add 2 bottles of Lucas trans. additive. No premises but it's better than a new trans. Worth a try.

Still sounds like a bad output speed sensor - check scan the TCM for codes and see what you get. Also check the wiring at and near the output speed sensor connector.

Good Evening, I have a dumb question. have you cleared any current or history codes in the transmission? They will default with codes in the system. Also make note on what they are. If any and we can go from there, and yes tcm would be the next place to go but more info is best as far as codes and such.

How to drain and fill transmission fluid in 2012 chevy malibu?

GET NEW GASKET AND FILTER FOR TRANNY ALONG WITH THE FLUID (BEFORE YOU BEGINE)
GET A LARGE FLAT DRAIN PAN.
PUT CAR UP ON 4 JACK STANDS.
place drain pan under tranny pan.
undo tranny pan screws - allow one corner to hang lower than the other corner (to allow fluid to drain) slowly remove them all.
Its messy! empty tranny pan into drain pan. set tranny pan to the side. undo the filter clamp, carefully remove the filter - set into the drain pan, remove the gasket around the tranny body/tranny pan.
Clean tranny block surface with clean cloth. install new filter, install clamp tightly. Clean tranny pan, place gasket onto pan and then reinstall tranny pan. (this only change the fluid in the tranny body and pan) If you wan the fluid out of the torque convertor you have pull the pan under the torque convertor and turn the convertor so you can get at the drain plug. Allow fluid to drain into drain pan. Reinstall drain plug and pan. (you will need a lot of fluid) Check manual for qty. Place car back on to ground/floor. Refill tranny through filler tube. Do not start the engine until oil is at full mark, and when you do start it do not all it to run for than 4 minutes - stop and add more fluid and check full mark again (repeat until no longer sinks below full mark. gently test drive around you block -- come back and check level while engine running. Top up if needed.
Siphon out excess above full mark. Test drive around 3 block,
come back check full mark. Because the torque convertor was emptied it can take a while to get all the air out it.

1996 GMC suburban wont upshift.

when u changed the fluid was it dark /brownish and smelt burnt and was their filings or shavings on the magnet in pan if so more than likely your transmission may be fried---a bad vacuum that would cause shifting problems would also cause the truck to run rough and or stall

Is transmission fluid pan accessable from underneath car?

Yeah, that's how it is done. Use jackstands or blocks under car. Raise enough that you can work comfortably underneath. The pan is on the very bottom of the transaxle. Loosen all pan bolts a turn or two, then remove bolts from one end, letting pan start lowering, catch fluid with drain pan. When fluid level in the pan gets low, finish removing all pan bolts, and pull the pan off. Filter is right there underneath the pan.

How do i drain transmission fluid and replace trans-filter 1996 chevy suburban 4x4 454

Finding where to put transmission fluid can be a bit of a challenge on some cars. In fact there are some transmissions that you can't even add fluid to.But that's not the case on your vehicle.

First confirm the level of fluid before filling it.==========For exact transmission fluid replacing/filling procedure.Go through the list of help links below:-----its having complete step by step procedure.Click the link :----

So..I'm a female nerd!! How and can I change the transmission fluid myself? It is a 96 chevy blazer 4 wheel drive

It's not too hard at all. You'll need a decent size drain pan. You'll want to remove all but a couple of the transmission pan bolts on the bottom of the transmission. Let the fluid drain out as you loosen the last couple bolts. Once most of the fluid has drained out, remove the last couple bolts and let the pan done and pour out the remaining fluid, discard the old pan gasket. I would also replace the transmission filter, the new filter should have a new pan gasket with it. Remove the old filter, install the new filter, use some gasket cement to glue down the new gasket to the pan and reinstall and fill with new fluid. I would also check your transfer case fluid level, the transfer case is behind the transmission.

How do you go about changing the trans fluid on a 2005 chevy impala

First make sure you have the proper amount of Transmission fluid to replace what you drain as well as a new transmission filter and gasket. (they usually come in a kit together. The filter & gasket). Make sure the transmission fluid is warm before using jack stands, drive on ramps or a floor jack with jack stands. If there's a transmission drain plug, open it and allow the transmission fluid to drain into a catch pan. If there's not a drain plug, remove the transmission pan bolts, leaving the 4 corner bolts in place until the end. Then slowly loosen two of the bolts at the same end to allow the transmission pan to tilt as well as drain the fluid that way. As the transmission fluid drains, start removing the other two pan bolts to allow more of a tilt until you can place your hand on the pan and remove the remaining bolts, thus removing the pan to be cleaned out. You will normally find a magnet in the bottom of the pan which needs to be cleaned and re-installed. The transmission filter is attached to the "valve body" ,m and when removing that, be aware that more transmission fluid will drain out. To clean a transmission pan, I use either CRC Brake-Kleen or gasoline. Remove all of the pan gasket, install the new filter and replace the transmission pan...don't forget to place the magnet in it and pull your transmission dipstick out of the tube. It has a "vent to atmosphere" so the Brake-Kleen is wonderful for that. If not cleaned, it allows internal pressures to build up inside of the transmission and you could blow transmission seals. Refill with fluid and with your foot on the brake, start it up and allow it to go into ALL the gear ranges, eg. Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive 2nd and low and then back up to allow the valve body to replace the fluid lost when the filter was changed. Road test and re-check the Transmission fluid Hot on a level surface and add as needed.
A Haynes Manual for your particular vehicle would help with the amount of fluid you will need as well as the tightening pattern of the pan. It also has pictures of what you're going to see before you launch into this task.

Hope this Helps,

"00 Buck"

How do i service my transmission on a 2004 chevy trailblazer

transmission pan must be removed to drain fluid & change filter.loosen all pan bolts, remove all but 4 bolts @ corners.strike pan with a plastic hammer or block of wood if it's stuck. slowly remove remaining bolts, allowing fluid to drain into a suitable container.this can get messy, have rags handy.when drained, remove pan, clean pan & transmission gasket surfaces.pull filter straight down, push new filter on to tube, positioned as original, install new gasket,'run down 'all pan bolts then tighten them securely.

1999 gmc suburban rpms go up but car does,nt go any faster

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?  Also, have you changed the transmission filter?  I would definately do these two before I would take it to a shop.  A typical transmission filter/gasket kit costs about $10-15 for that truck.  And the transmission fluid will run around $2-4 per quart.
Changing the filter is easy.  You will just take the transmission pan off and then pull the filter out, replace the filter, and then replace the pan gasket.  Then bolt it all back up and fill it with fluid!  It's that simple.
