Check the fuses! Many times I have replaced alternators just to find the fuse was blown that tells it to charge. This doesn't mean the alternator wasn't bad, that's what causes the fuse to blow. Just my guess, not knowing anything about what make or model it is.

Car died while driving!can only jump start.dim lights ect

If all your connections are clean and sound, then your car should be able to run without a battery. Start the car and disconnect the negative terminal. If it stops your alternator is faulty. This would explain dim lights that are draining the life out of the battery instead of being alternator driven. Same as the dieing while driving, the battery can't keep supplying power forever without being recharged by the alternator.

If the alternator is ok, the battery needs replacing. Repeated draining of batteries kills them.

Interior lights go dim when head lights are turned on2000 escort

You have a faulty alternator, You need to get it checked or you will damage the new battery due to excess current drain.
It could be repairable or you may need a replacement alternator.

93 nissan pathfinder charging problems

check for voltage at the battery with the engine running. You should see 14 plus volts. Now turn on the lights, bower motor, and whatever else you can to put the maximum draw on the battery. If the voltage drops below 13 volts the alternator is bad.

What charges a 98 ford escort alternator?

That could be a bad battery. Try replacing the battery (cheaper than a new alternator). Usually, if it is the alternator, your battery will be drained and you aren't able to start the car without boosting. The dimming lights is the clue - lights run purely off the battery, not the alternator, as do most of the electric components.

2005 cosa1.4 put head lights on dash lights go dim alt light out

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If you have a failing battery or alternator the lights may go dim on full electrical load. As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the battery and alternator be checked before replacement.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Lights dimming and car eventually turns off

I had this happen to my car and I had replaced the battery and alternator-take the alternator and have it tested-even though its new because sometimes the voltage regulator is faulty

Lights are dimming, gauges are zeroing out while i'm driving. Could this be my alternator? Because car has new battery and starter.

If your battery is charge indicator light does not come on and battery is holding charge after a couple days of driving it is unlikely your alternator is faulty.
If the lights are dimming on youe meter cluster only, it could be a bad connector to the meter cluster.
If your head light are dimming it could be a bad battery connection or the alternator.

Engine slow from a stop sign and lights were dim

What you described is the alternator needs to be replaced, the voltage regulator or the rectifier in the alternator has gone bad causing your light to go dim which indicates that the Battery is not being charged at low engine RPM speeds. Replace the alternator and Battery if the it's more then 5 years old. Good luck and if money is an issue, you can buy the alternator and battery at a Salvage Yard and they have a 90 day warranty.

Lights go dim at night and after will not crank put new battery and alternator

Dimming lights points to the alternator, even though you replaced it. You may have gotten a bad alternator, or you could have a bad ground wire someplace.
