SOURCE: check engine light
Check all of the connections to the ECM--twice.
Be sure the four-letter code on your replacement ECM matches the one you removed.
The ECM relies on calibrations performed on some sensors while at the factory. For that reason there may be a switch or a sensor that is reading out of range.
If it seems to be running fine, drive it for a while and get an accurate measurement of MPG. Poor MPG will indicate that things like O2 sensor, MAP/MAF, TPS, IAC, IAT are not reading properly. Check for codes with a OBD-I reader.

The reset button is located under the passenger side of the instrument panel.
With the ignition in the ON position, but the engine not started, use a pencil to push the reset button, holding it for five seconds.
After this, the "Change Oil Soon" lamp will flash four times. This indicates that the Oil Life Monitor System has acknowledged the oil change.

If it's not sticking throttle linkage, and i assume it isn't because you have an engine light on, it's probably a faulty idle control sensor. You can get one at any parts store, and they aren't hard to remove and replace. The parts guy can show you exactly where it is on his screen.

If the oil filter was over torqued and the gasket was rolled off the filter's gasket grove would case the gasket to blow out. Case would be not lubricating the O ring gasket on the filter before installation would also case the gasket to come off the grove on the filter and the oil pressure pushing through the system would blow it out. Note: follow instructions on the oil filter prior to installations and check the gasket for leaks upon start up and warm up. Hope this help's.
