Soak them with penetrating oil, then use heat after the oil has soaked in. these will be very tight, and very stuck. use a 6 point socket and make sure it fits well. you do not want to round them off. keep some sort of fire extinguisher nearby in case everything goes wrong! chances are it wont, but just be careful!

SOURCE: need to install new neutral safety switch on

There is a procedure to set the switch so that it will start in neutral and park and not in drive or reverse, there are two slotted mounting holes on the switch for adjustment purposes to get it close put a scribe mark on the old switch in relation to the mounting bolt heads, when installing new switch look at the marks on the old switch to approximately locate the switch in relation to mounting bolt heads. When removing the switch make sure the truck is in park, remove the shift lever nut off the transmission where the Neutral safety switch is, then unplug the wire going to the switch, mark the bolt relation to switch as described and slide switch off the transmission shift shaft, the inside of switch hole is not round it has a flat or square type hole so it can lock into shaft and turn with shaft you may need to rotate the switch back and forth to slide it over the shift shaft when installing the new switch. bolt it on after sliding it over the shaft noting the aproximate location using the scribe marks on old switch, after assembling the shift lever and plugging the wire back in a fine adjustment of switch amy be needed if the starter doesn't activate, get under the truck loosen the hold down bolts for the switch and have an assistant hold the ignition switch to the start position while you rotate the switch when the starter activates lock down the bolts and check after to be sure the truck won't start in drive or reverse adjust accordingly.

How do i remove the transmission from a 2001 ford taurus

this is a big job,you will need to dissconnect the battery, then you will need an engine support bar to hold and lower the engine from the top. you will have to remove the battery and the bracket and also airbox, next is to raise the car and remove the wheels and then seperate the lower balljionts on both sides, remove the axle nuts and remove the axles. then remove the swaybar ends, next is to put engine support on the top of the engine and then remove the frame from under the engine and trany, before the frame can come out you will need to remove the exhaust system and also unbolt the steering rack from the steering shaft, make sure to lock wheel so it doesnt turn, remove lines from rack, when you remove the lower frame the steering rack and all the frnot end componets like the swaybar and lower control arms will come out with the frame you will need to unbolt the front and rear engine mounts, leave the trany mount bolted for now, after the frame is out you will then remove the bolt on the trany mount, this is the mount where the battery sits at the rear of the tranny, lower the engine slowly and just a bit. next is to remove the starter and flywheel covers, you will then remove the converter bolts that hold the flywheel to converter on tranny, next is to remove the tranny bbolts, make sure to leave one bolt on for is to lower engine support enough so that the tranny has enough room to come out, next install tranny jack under tranny and remove last bolt holding it,then pry away from engine always checking to make sure all bolts are out and also all wire connections unhooked, like wiring harness to tranny and selector switch connector and speedometer connection, and tranny will seperate and then you slowly lower to ground, to install reverse directions. good day.

I have a 93 explorer 4x4, 4.0 shoc v6. My tranny is shot, band are gone, shaving in the pan. I found a good used one and I am in the process of dropping the tranny. In my book it says that I have to...

A 12 mm , 12 point, socket is what you will need for the rear drive shaft. They have locktite on them and can be very difficult to remove. May need to apply a little heat. The front drive shaft is a normal torx. I beleive it is a T30. Again locktite has been used. Drive lines must be removed before transmission assembly can be removed from vehicle. (if prefer, you can remove rear bolts at transfer case of front driveline and swing and tie driveline to frame. This will save you from removing front bolts on driveline.
Transmission and transfer case can be pulled as an assembly but you will need to seperate them on ground for installation of new transmission. And without proper jacks will make it alot tougher job to get transmission to clear between floor boards and cross-over pipe for removal.

Im takin the motor out of the car. how do I seperate the motor and the trans. so I can remove the motor and not the trans. I have it stripped down to the block and the bolts out holding the motor and...

there are 3 or 4 bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel. You did not specify what engine you have, s o for the moment I will suggest that you look for either an inspection cover to be removed to access bolts or a small opening at the bell housing. You will need to rotate the engine around to access each bolt.
Make sure you have a pan under the area as trans fluid will pour out when you attempt to remove the engine. Depending on which engine I might have suggested removing the driveline and separating it on the ground.....too late now. Let me know how you make out.

I pulled all the bellhousing bolts..motor mount bolts...and can't seperate the 4 speed granny transmission from the engine block...what's the problem..everything is lose but won't seperate..

The input shaft (on the front of the trans) is inserted into the clutch plate, so the trans has to move straight backward (or the engine has to move straight forward) about two or three inches to separate the two, before either one can move up or down.

Make sure that you can get them to rotate slightly with respect to each other, to make sure that there is not one more bolt somewhere that is still holding them together.

If you are pulling the engine, make sure that you have already removed the radiator, otherwise when you pull the engine forward, it could go too far and smash the radiator.

Need a torque converter for a 1992 Jeep Briarwood...any ideas? How much to get it fixed, what does it involve?

Depends on how much time you got?You have to drop the driveline.Slide the driveline out. Also have a 2 1/2 ton jack to hold the tranny. 6 to 8 bolts from the engine housing to tranny. Torgue converters range from 500 to 1000 dollars. Have a mech do it and it could cost anywhere from 1000 to 2500 .

I need to seperate the engine and tranny on a 99 4x4 Dakota 3.9l. Seems to be a plate blocking access. Need to get to the torque converter bolts.

there is an inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing you must remove to get to the torque converter bolts. you must rotate the fly wheel to access all the bolts. they make a tools for this, but a flat head screw driver works just as good, it just takes a little longer.

Possibly Ujoint going bad or driveline may need to be balanced-could also be a tire out of balance-another idea could be loose flex plate on engine or torque convetor bolts loose!!! :)
