What ihappens if i Press the asr button on a 2001 beetle

ASR stands for "Anti-slip Regulator", which is the traction control on MkIV and MkV Jettas. It's a simple system that cuts torque to a wheel that is slipping, to give it a chance to stop turning and possibly get a better grip on the road surface. The ASR does not activate above speeds of 20 MPH, and therefore is really only intended to assist in highly slippery surfaces such as hydroplaning water (the height at which this affects the car is largely determined by the ability of your tire to guide the water underneath it through channels to get it out of the way) or snow. ASR doesn't help on ice -- nothing helps on ice except studded tires or chains.

ASR replaced the older ESP system, and is vastly inferior to the Haldex 4MOTION system found on limited VW models.

Asr light on wont rev up goes off may run a wweek no problem then act (ugly) again

if your ASR light is on, then either you are experiencing wheel-spin (even a small amount will cause it to flash), or you might have pressed the ASR button to turn it off (it will be on constantly).

When on and slipping; engine revs are limited by computer to maintain control. Until it resets. This feature may be disabled by pressing ASR or "anti skid" button... not recommended unless prepared for wheel slippage.

Sounds like it is doing its job? The rev up shutting down will not hurt your motor... It's the trade off for uncontrolled slipping being controlled by computer..

1995 E320 asr light come on and car stop accelaration

Mostly this problem appends on winter time. I f you take your car to the dealership you could throw your money away like many people did and the problem still not solve. I fixed mine definitely by myself and you could do it too. 1- Open the hood, Jack the vehicle. On both front tires you will see a cable that looks like a Rca jack that connect to the brakes but it's bigger than RCA jack. 2- Follow that RCA cable to the hood and on the other end you will see 2 small white wires that bring power to ASR and ABS system cut those 2 wires and you automatically disable the ASR and you solve the problem. As you know the ASR system is good for snow, it's like a 4 by 4 and you will need it later to drive safely in bad weather when there is snow. What to do next. After cutting the 2 small wires, I put 2 swiches in case I need the ASR in bad weather. One swich for ASR and the other one for ABS. when you cut one wire you connect both ends to the swich and you do the same for the second wire that you cut. The only one thing you will see is the ASR and ABS light will turn on on the dash. When driving in bad weather, open the hood and turn on the swich to enjoy the feature of the ASR.. ASR=4 by 4

What is asr button

Anti Slip Regulator (ASR button) stops power to the wheels when they spin (on slippery surfaces ),the ASR is designed to be turned off only when you require the wheels to spin at low speed,EG: when you are on snow or ice,as the ASR will stop the power to the wheels if they start spinning, you would never get anywhere. over 20 M P H is not active and serves no function.......hope this helps......cheers.

I have a 95 mercedes benz 600s and the asr light keeps coming on and it won't shut off even when i hit the button. any suggestions on how i can disconnect it for good.

Your ASR light is on for a reason, if it won't shut off with the switch it has been tripped by another system. Have your brake switch checked its on the back of the brake pedal. Next have ABS wheel checked. ASR was replaced by ESP and neither system can be shut off completely. If the ASR light is on there is an error it IS OFF.Hope this helps

Passat 200, intermittently break/ABS/ASR/STOP lights come ON

Try carefully topping up the brake fluid, this can happen when the level falls as the pads wear down especially when cornering

Asr problem

MB has ASR,  VW now has ESP.  You posted in Jetta TDI, but say you have a SL600.   Both are slip/traction control programs and both can be manually overridden by dashboard button.  When the ASR or ESP is locked out, the light will be on all the time, maybe you can just push the button?   When driving, if this light flashes on, then ASR/ESP is trying to help get the wheel that is spinning not to.

If the light came on after replacing parts, or a repair job,  something may be wrong with the parts (non OEM), the service or a sensor may have been damaged.

Check with dealer for a recall for your vehicle on brake switch ... vw had a recall on these around 2002-2005.
