SOURCE: check engine light code PO442

You likely won't notice any drivability problems. P0442 indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter.
The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage.
Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

With a P0442, the most common repair is to Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses.

Good luck and hope this helps

What do I when my 98 volvo s70 2.4L engine has trouble codes po133 & po442?

Po133 is and oxygen sensor code. Replace the front oxygen sensor use a bosch or OE sensor only. P0442 is and evap system leak. Most common fault is a cracked hose at the evap cannister at the right rear of the car.

Po442 check engine light ON What iis thew problem

It is a code for a small leak in the evaporative emissions system (fuel). The first thing to check is the gas cap. Ensure that the cap is tight and that the rubber gasket is intact and not cracked or broken.

If that doesn't work, there is a hose on the drivers side called the j-hose that cracks over time and can set the code. See the link for details.

Try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to clear the computer. Dont fill your gas tank with car running it causes false check engine lights to come on. Autozone will run a free diaognostic to see if you can geta code to tell you what is wrong.

The gas cap was not sufficiently tightenend ater fueling, a bad gas-cap rubber o-ring, the vehicle had the key in the 'on', or engine running, or the tank was filed all of the way up the neck.

Any one of the abope causes will set all three codes.

Check Engine Light with Code P0072 on 2004 Volvo XC90

Grounding issue "Circuit low" = ground wire problem or another system on the same circuit using too much current.

Check all wiring issues and then correct the issue to have the code go away :)
