Could be tire out of ballance, if a weight comes off the rim it can cause very bad vibrations sometimes. Is there and roaring or grinding sounds coming from gearbox or rear end ? If so that could indicate a gear going out but usuallu if it's a gear it goes pretty quick .

SOURCE: Transmission Problem

Yes. Either the clutches are burnt or the solenoid(s) aren't working. If you are not familiar with the inner workings of an automatic transmission you need to visit a transmission repair shop.

SOURCE: 03 explorer indicates wrong gear

if the shifter is still firm in its location, the neutral safety switch is located on the left side of the transmission. you can loosen it and relalign it to read the correct gear.
