Question about Ford Taurus

Open Question

I had the flexible part of my '07 Taurus exhaust fixed and welded back on. The next day the transmission started kicking back on the downshift, right before I stop. Could the transmission sensors have been damaged during the welding process, or are they out of reach? If it's something else, then what? I checked the tranny fluid: it's full, doesn't have a suspicious color, and it doesn't smell. Thanks.

That would be your neutral park switch is bad or broken. If the shifter linkage is not aligned with the neutral park switch it will not work properly. Located on drivers side on top of Trans.

SOURCE: Check engine Transmission

It sounds like you have a TV ( throttle valve) cable problem.
If you look at the throttle body on the engine intake manifold, you will see an accelerator cable, cruise control cable (if applicable) and a TV cable that runs to the transmission.
Make sure the tv cable is attached to the throttle body. If you pull on the cable you should feel spring resistance.
Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: Have a 1985 Mercedes 300D. Transmission fluid line

Unless you observed the utmost in cleanliness when repairing the line and addling fluid, you may have gotten some junk in the tranny. The smallest impurity in transmission fluid can cause operational difficulties. If your lucky (and clean) you may have simply under or overfilled the trans. This can cause the shift points to change dramatically. Check the fluid level again. If you're not sure how to properly check the trans. fluid: park on a very level surface night before checking level, next morning depress parking brake and allow engine to run for 2-3 minutes before checking. Use a clean lint free rag to check level on the dipstick. If you are over full, drain some fluid off until you get it right, obviously if you are still low, add some more. Dextron-Mercon is a suitable trans. fluid for your car.

Try adjusting the transmission cable that comes from the throttle body. That is where the transmission gets it's input for how much throttle is being requested. If it's misadjusted and thinks you're requesting too little throttle, it may try to downshift more than normal. It's been a while since I've done this on mine so I don't remember if this is the exact procedure or if there are additional steps, but you have to pop the clip for the throttle to transmission cable and slide the cable as far in as possible then put the clip back. Next you'll want to press the gas pedal all the way down (may have to use extra force). You'll hear a pop and you're done. If you mark beforehand, you can see if adjusting did anything.

No its not and will cause a problem in the long run. The dealer should have sent the repair out to a local muffler shop for welding. Go back to dealer and make them do it, or tell them you are going to call the local GM zone manager!

96 Ford Taurus GL Revving problem when stop then go

Did you check the transmission fluid again. You could have a major leak. Or reving the car up so high it started to burn the clutches in your transmission, resulting in replacing the transmission. Always check the fluid. A few dollars for fluid is better than 1500 bucks for a new tranny

89 chevy 2500 silverado

that was old school , vehicles with the turbo 400 transmission are equipped with an ECM controlled downshift system , when vehicle is at speeds below 70 mph a forced (detent) downshift is possible by fully depressing the accelerator ,when the ECM detects a drop in manifold vacuum (high map sensor reading) the downshift control relay is energized by the ECM , the relay detects battery voltage to the detent solenoid in the transmission to open open an oriface to force the transmission to downshift ..... if yours is not working i would first check the downshift relay , under hood , picture is so bad i can't tell , looks like on the firewall more to the passenger side , next to fuel pump relay , if it needs more diag than that maybe you should get an estimate for repair from a trans shop or such , hope ya fix it , cheers .

bad design flaw with the transmission kick down cable make sure you are in OD first but if you are then this cable is adjustable it is next to the throttle cable and tells the trans when to downshift only adjust very little increments as this can easily blow your tanni as you may already know this feeling

When i come to a complete stop and hold on the brakes, the car jerks as if it does not want to stop

Does the car 'creep' excessively? If so, your idle speed is too high. The transmission is probably downshifting late to first. Get to someone who knows about these things...nothing you should try to fix yourself....but check to see if your transmission fluid level is right and the color is right.
