Turn the rioght key on and off 7 times without trying to crank it. let it rest for 3 seconds or so between each attempt. Good luck!

Testimonial: "I tried in both up and down positions several times ,it didn't work! My question for you is if I buy a new key and perhap try the same steps might that work?"

Can not turn key to start the car

Either the "key lock " is broken, or you have the wrong key, or the steering wheel is in a bind.
Usually, the problem is # 3.
To fix it, either you or someone else needs to pull the steering wheel to the right or left until the key will turn.
One person pulls the wheel right of left whilst the other tries to turn the ignition key.
Do not force the key, but it is OK to tug the steering wheel.
This might take a little muscle.
If your front wheel is up against a curb, or something, this can happen.
God bless your efforts.

Car starts up for a seacond and shuts off and the security light flashes

Sound like a SECURITY SYSTEM is armed; I suggest check in the Owners Manual to disarm...

zjlimited_1401.jpg

zjlimited_1402.jpg
When the PASS-Key III system senses that someone is using the wrong key, it shuts down the vehicle's starter and fuel systems. The starter will not work and fuel will stop being delivered to the engine. Anyone using a trial-and-error method to start the vehicle will be discouraged because of the high number of electrical key codes.

When trying to start the vehicle if the engine does not start and the SECURITY light comes on, the key may have a damaged transponder. Turn the ignition off and try again.

If the engine still does not start, and the key appears to be undamaged, try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuse. If the engine still does not start with the other key, your vehicle needs service. If your vehicle does start, the first key may be faulty.

Hope this helps.

My son was playing radio , now my keys are stuck in the ignition and all the power system is shut off. i started the car by jump start but all the power system is not working and the keys are still stuck...

When the PASS-Key® III system senses that someone is using the wrong key, it shuts down the vehicle's starter and fuel systems.

I suggest check in this link the 2007 SAAB 9-7X - Owners Manual, section THEFT and PASSLOCK SYSTEMS (page 90 and next).

In my 2000 chevy camaro my security light is on and my car wont start what process do i need to do to get it running?

Your vehicle is equipped with the PASS-Key II (Personalized Automotive Security System) theft-deterrent system.
PASS-Key II is a passive theft-deterrent system. It works when you insert or remove the key from the ignition.
PASS-Key II uses a resistor pellet in the ignition key that matches a decoder in your vehicle. When the PASS-Key II system senses that someone is using the wrong key, it shuts down the vehicle's starter and fuel systems. For about three minutes, the starter won't
work and fuel won't go to the engine. If someone tries to start your vehicle again or uses another key during this time, the vehicle will not start. This discourages someone from randomly trying different keys with different resistor pellets in an attempt to make a match.

The ignition key must be clean and dry before it's inserted in the ignition or the engine may not start. If the engine does not start and the SECURITY light stays on when you try to start the vehicle, the key may be dirty or wet. Turn the ignition off.

Clean and dry the key. Wait about three minutes and try again. The SECURITY light may remain on during this time. If the starter still won't work, and the key appears to be clean and dry, wait about three minutes and try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuses (see "Fuses and Circuit Breakers" in the Index). If the starter won't work with the other key, your vehicle needs service. If your vehicle does start, the first ignition key may be faulty. See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II.

If you accidentally use a key that has a damaged or missing resistor pellet, the starter won't work. The SECURITY light will flash. But you don't have to wait three minutes before trying another ignition key.

See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II to have a new key made.

If you're ever driving and the SECURITY light comes on and stays on, you will be able to restart your engine if you turn it off. Your PASS-Key II system, however, is not working properly and must be serviced by your dealer. Your vehicle is not protected by the PASS-Key II system. If you lose or damage a PASS-Key II ignition key, see your dealer or a locksmith who can service PASS-Key II to have a new key made. In an emergency, call the Chevrolet Roadside Assistance Center at 1-800-CHEV-USA or 1-800-243-8872 (In Canada call 1-800-268-6800).

I have a 04 pt cruiser with airbag light and chime intermittent fault code p1685

p1685,,"skim invalid key"
I have no idea what they are talking about, but that is the code.

DTC P1685 is Invalid SKIM Key. The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) is part of the security system and kills the vehicle when a wrong key is used. There may be a problem with your key or the chip reader in the ignition switch. This is something the dealer will need to determine for sure. This code will also be set if someone actually tried to steal the vehicle.

My guesswould beto reset your PCM (unhook bat. and depress brake for 1 min), then try to start the car. If that doesn't work, I guess haul it into a dealership so they can run a diagnostic quote.gif

I got this from another site, check it out.

The red light on my dash is flashing and my car is dead

It is indicating a problem with the engine & once the light comes on, it will prevent the engine from starting and will only go away after the problem has been rectified. Check the engine oil level, quantity of coolant, all the plugs and if you still cant find out whats wrong, then the best thing to do is take to a service center which has a computer for analyzing the error indicate what is the exact nature of the problem. If engine is OK then it will indicate what is wrong with the sensor which triggered this alarm & reset/calibrate it necessary...............sodeep
