Engine vacuum leak . Videos on youtube showing how to find a vacuum leak . The intake manifold gaskets would be a likely possibility .

Loud whistling noise when cold engine start till motor warms up ?

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Open it up and stick a piece of flexible tubing in your ear, and run it around the engine until you hear the source. Watch out for moving parts.

Volvo s60 2004 makes a whistling noise and engine light says P0300 random/ multiple misfire

You have to diagnose an ignition problem,
since you have the PO300 & misfires shown,
at least for many cylinders

Could end up just being one cylinder or several
that need whatever ignition parts control them

Individual Coils for each cylinder or a module that
applies to all of them

Wouldn't use the car until resolved
As it gets worse, you will ruin the exhaust converter

No idea on the whistle

We find ourselves on the Alaskan Hwy, at Ft. Nelson. Yesterday we noticed a whistling noise coming from what appears to be brake compartment and when you apply the brake or turn the steering wheel, it...

Hi,
A whislting noise would make me suspect a cracked or broken vaccuum line. Whistling as it sucks air into the system. I would check the biggest one first, on your brake booster. It is a large line coming from the engine to the brake booster assembly located behing the brake master cylinder. I would check all the lines with engine running, have a helper rev the engine slightly while you listen in the engine compartment to see if you can locate it. Also work the brakes simultaneously. Cold weather can make older lines crack which can cause a serious problem depending on which line cracks or breaks. Check all your air lines first and see if you find it in that system before assuming something more major. A crack in other engine system lines will usually produce a fluid leak of some type.....Good luck!..Mike

Engine has a slight whistling noise, increses with acceleration.

Lift the hood and listen to the engine while it's running and see if you can locate where the noise is coming from. Check to see if all your cold air intake connections on the engine are tight and check all your vacuum hoses. Do you have an aftermarket cold air intake on your vehicle? They improve air flow into the intake but may increase intake noise.

well it may help if you open the hood, then start the car and see if that helps you locate the item which is whistling. many cars have a power steering pump which likes to whistle until it gets warm. generally this is less than 5 minutes, and that is more like a screeching sound. something is either blowing out or sucking in through a small orifice to make the whistle, you need to physically locate the source of the sound. many bearings are in there spinning and any of them can be doing a cold screech.

myself I have been know to use a BFS, which is a big long screwdriver, i touch the pointy end to each of the spinning components and put the handle end to an ear. yes this process is not suggested for people with long hair or just no damn sense. but as i move the pointy end from component to component i know immediately when i touch it to the screechy one.

Hi i got problem with my bmw e39 540 i auto .when engine warm it changes gear late and got a whisle noise .it only does when engine warmed and if i turn engine of and wait for 20 min or less it gets normal...

Look for vacuum leaks, late shifting can be a result of lower than normal manifold vacuum, look for dislodged or broken hoses.

My thought is when you find the whistling, you will have the solution...

Engine whistling when cold in morning

Your alternator is drawing alot of power trying to charge the battery.Try tightening the belt. That should fix your problem..The reason the alternator is whistling so much on cold starts is because thats when it takes the most power from the battery to start the car.And the noise from the alternator is it charging it back up..So I'd try tighting the belt that will fix the smell and watch for the battery light or alternator light in the dash come on the could be your alternator failing and you dont want that to happen..I hope this helps you fix the problem.Have a great day...

Whistle noise when starting cold car

its proberly what they call a secondary air intake pump - what this does is increase the air flow only on cold start up - the colder it is the longer it stays on - if the noise gets louder and you will notice - get it changed - we have the same problem over here on the vauxhall omega and corsa's - bless em got to be GM
