Is it possible to permanantly disable these maintenance reminder lights? I'm surprised I can't find any other posts asking that question. I've been succesfully maintaining my cars for thirty years without this nuisance reminder at an interval (5,000 miles) that may be meaningless to those of us who like to decide on our own when to do work. I guess I'm in the minority on this but it's new to me. I just bought a 2009 Camry.
thanks,
Oily but Indy
Thanks mcgyver468 for that info. I can rest it, I just thought there might be a way around dealing with it altogether. Thanks mcgyver468 for that info. I can rest it, I just thought there might be a way around dealing with it altogether.

No it is not possible. The manufacturer has engineered the vehicle so I suppose they know when the maintainence should be performed. Do you need assistance with resetting the oil=life monitor?
Hi,
I own a Toyota camry 2007, and I too hate the reminder, I fell like the car is about to break down when it turns on. As far as I know, when you take the care to a dealer for an oild change, they are the one who by using the speedometer they set up the car again to turn on the light on at 5K miles, you can ask the dealer at Toyota when they do the oil change not to set it up. Maybe this link can help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXLnyzA-6tM&feature=PlayList&p=686ED671C9CDC972&index=0&playnext=1

normally if its going to be an O2 sensor,, the check engine light would come on, not the maintenance light, I don't know if your car has 2 different ones, My 2000 civic does though,, normally a maint light comes on if its time for an oil change , etc... rest the light,, heres how you do that
you use the button that resets your trip odometer to reset the maintenance light.
with the key in the ignition but not turned on, hold the trip reset button in with one hand. then, while holding the button in, turn the ignition key to the ON position so that the lights on the dash come on.
continue to hold the reset button in and watch the maintenance light. it will take about 15 seconds for the light to go out
when the light goes out, turn the ignition key OFF and then release the trip reset button.
your light will be reset and come on in about another 5000 miles to remind you of the next service
Hello. Welcome to FIxYa. Please allow us to assist you
The maintenance required light is there to remind you that your oil change is due. This light needs to be reset after the oil ic changed, it is manually reset. If you just had your oil changed, the light will not go off by itself. The light is designed to illuminate after 5,000 miles since the last reset procedure.
Hi, it is possible it may require other schedualed services and you are being reminded. However to reset for the oil change you need to have the key off. press and hold down the milage trip reset button and turn the key on. After five seconds the odometer reads "0000000" and the light goes off. If this does not reset then let me know. There is a longer procedure for reseting the other maint services required.
No the maintenance light comes on at a set mileage interval to remind you that your vehicle will be do for oil or some other scheduled maintenance. Low brakes will not trigger the light. If there is a serious problem with the braking system it will trigger the red brake light on the dash.
Look in your owners manual and go to the part that explains the different symbols on your dash. Look for that service reminder and it should tell you what page to go to to learn more about that. Somewhere there should be some wording to the effect that "When you have your car serviced by a certified Toyota dealer they will reset it for you. In the event that someone other does your maintenance then this is the procedure to reset......."

Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light
This light acts as a reminder to replace the engine oil.
This light will come on when the ignition key is turned to "ON" and will go off after about a few seconds.
When you drive for about 7200 km (4500 miles) after the engine oil replacement, this light illuminates for about 3 seconds and then flashes for about
12 seconds with the ignition key turned to the "ON" position. If you continue driving without replacing the engine oil, and if the distance driven
exceeds 8000 km(5000 miles), the light will come on. The light will remain on thereafter.
If the light is flashing, we recommend that you replace the engine oil at an early opportunity depending on the driving and road conditions. If the light
comes on, replace it as soon as possible.
Resetting the system
The system must be reset after the engine oil replacement. Reset the system by the following procedure:
1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown.
2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the "TRIP METER" reset button.
Hold down the knob for atleast 5 seconds. The odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off.
If the system fails to reset, the light will continue flashing.
If you are getting an Maintenance Oil light then that is a reminder to have your oil changed...You will need to reset the mainteince light. To reset "Maint. Notice" on the display, turn the ignition key on (do not start)...with engine off. select the "Maintenance Schedule' key by using the button to right or left. Using the button select the "Reset" key and push the "Enter" button. This should be outlined in your in owners manual as well. The oil pressure or low oil light looks like a little genie oil lamp. The Maint. Tire is the same concept, it's a reminder to check your tires pressure or do a rotation on them. I hope this helps.
The maintenance req'd lignt comes on every 5,00 miles to remind you that an oil change is due. It has nothing to do with a tune-up or other scheduled maintenance. It is just an oil change reminder, and needs to be manually reset after the oil is changed.
Thanks mcgyver468 for that info. I can rest it, I just thought there might be a way around dealing with it altogether.
