What year, car , what size engine.?????????????
on newer cars there are 4 or 6 COP coils.
no year, no joy,,,
sorry, but they evolved each year, so ???
if all coils fail to fire each TDC, that means the
CMP and or CKP are bad.

if you told year, id say.
96+ scan tool it, see the errors, 340,355 etc telling you what sender is bad, as you crake
if older car use the jumper to do same, and get DTC code.
the ECU will in fact tell YOu any time they fail. after 5 seconds of cranking, sure will.
even 1 fail in 10 , causes a DTC to trip.

318 ci. Why does it lose fire to new coil?

Check for loose wires around the coil post also check for broken wire inside the dist/pickup coil in the distributor and if maybe a relay is intermittent in the ignition system. Hope this helps. .

Lost fire from distribitor

96 1.6l ( there are 3 fuses. FI, COIL and dome) fix those first.

the coil is inside, did you check the output of the coil
for spark cap off dizzy? is that no spark.?
is the tachometer dead cranking.? if yes no tacho, then there
is no coil drive. from ECU.
the Dizzy is 100% controlled by the ECU.
the ECU has an OBD2 scan port above the right knee,
plug in any scan tool ($50 hand held)
crank motor over , see if RPM shows up, if not then CMP is dead.
read the scan tools DTC codes, is the ECU complaining of bad sensors. ( this is #2 after fuses) do not work on cars with no scan tool, this is a waste of time, and money.
no start or better no spark. if really true.
sometimes mech think there is no spark but the cam belt slipped
or the cam is not even spinning, dizzy rotor dead, dont turn.
or the coil really does have spark and dizzy timing is way off.
Dizzy clamp bolt, loose? bad spark wires, connected backwards.

I check the pick up it was good I dont think both coils would be bad

I had a 88 Buick SkyHawk 2.0L 5speed it stranded me in town thank god when i got it home did a tune up(plugs, wires, cap, and rotor) and fired right up. The timing belt had snapped 10k miles ago.
I also dont think it had two separate coils.
So just check the simple things first, maybe there worn, carboned.
Have code scanned on your OBD I vehicle. there is also a MIL blink trick, but i dont remember which terminals on the ALDL to jump. DONT JUMP THEM without checking first you may FRY THE ECU. THe secondary coil energizes the primary and fires the coil if either one burnout the coil is bad and will not work. so check the resistance on both coils.

if the immo light doesnt come on it means the ecu has left the immobilizer on. it is a commen fault on kia. if you lock and unlock the car or sometimes just take the key out the ignition then put it back in it sorts the problem. if you dont see the IMMO light dont attempt to start it because it wont fire

I have a 1994 lincoln continental and i am having problems getting it to fire. sometimes it will just fire up and the next it just quits firing. the coil, icm, pickupcoil, and cap and rotor

Hi, you listed coil, pickup coil and cap and rotor.if you allready replace those parts this can be another test, this can do what you are describing ,... leave the cap out so you can see the rotor, turn the crankshaft back and foward about 4 inches each way with a ratchet by the bolt head inside the balancing pulley, if the rotor dont move when you move the ratchet you have a bad timing chain.good luck
