I am looking for a ECU pinout or a Diagram. I am throwing a "turbine overspeed" code (P0716) on a non turbo car. Also P0721 and P0705 On second ECU with the same issue.

Hello. You are confusing the turbine over speed control sensor module of the car's transmission, with a turbo charger- a forced air induction device, of a car's engine. One has nothing to do with the other.

The turbine over-speed control module is basically a sensor that reads the speed of the transmission's input shaft (torque converter) in relation to the speed of the output shaft- transmission speed ratio/gear.

Simply put- when the P0716 error code displays, it means that the ECM has detected the value(s) of the input sensor as being out of range, like being too high or too low; or that there is some bad wiring issue in the circuit.

When this happens, the subsequent P0721 output speed sensor and P0705 transmission range sensor circuit malfunction error codes appear- and does not necessarily mean that the entire transmission components (electronic modules, sensors, or mechanical parts) have malfunctioned leading to a major transmission overhaul.

It is most likely that the Input Turbine Speed sensor needs to be replaced. Take the car to a well qualified SAE certified transmission specialist who has precise diagnostic and transmission control readers and are able to reset the computerized transmission modules once the repair is made.

I don't have the diagram, but will tell you , these lights are controlled by the transmission neutral safety/ range sensor switch. Depending on you transmission. the switch is inside or outside of the transmission. The one on the outside you can replace, about $50. The one on the inside You don't want to touch, unless you're comfortable rebuilding transmissions. At a shop will be about $600 to fix.

Below is the diagrams for the transmission. I'm kinda guessing you may just need the second picture for the transmission range sensor BUT (there's always a but) the transmission range indicator goes through the computer so it may be the wiring for the computer and not from the transmission. These were the biggest I could make the diagrams because fixya limits the size I can post on here (150KB max). Hope you can see. Now as far as the diagrams for the computer, there are 10 seperate ones and they would be to large on some of them to post. Feel free to email me directly at and I will be happy to make you up a PDF of that wiring and if need be larger pictures for the transmission control wiring. No there won't be a cost for it, I don't mind helping. Please remind me when you write of your year, make, model, that it's a 4X4 and that you are a #6 VIN. Hope this helps....

I have a 2001 vovlo s80 with the codes p1618 p0705 po733 how can i fix

PO705 is Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction. PO733 is Incorrect 3rd Gear Ration Information. P1618 means that the ECU and the TCM are not communicating properly. PO705 & PO733 can be related to P1618. Check the wiring going to the transmission. Look for a pinched wire from the car being put on a rack or possibly an accident you may have had recently. If you can find no problems with the wiring or connections then it is time to see a professional transmission expert. It may just be that the transmission has an internal problem.

The Transmission Range Sensor circuits have a problem. It could be a bad Transmission Range Sensor, A poor connection or damage to one or more of the wires to the sensor, the sensor could just be out of adjustment, or you could have a faulty transmission Control Module.

How do you test the transmission range selector switch

The Transmission Range Sensor in your car is digital so I recommend using a scan tool that displays sensor feedback data. Alternatively if you have an low impedance automotive rated multimeter you can back-probe the wires at the sensor connector and test for voltage.

The following specifications are based on a review of the wiring diagram for the TR sensor. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this procedure, as there are other sensors that are related to this circuit.

With the key on you should get 12V, or 5V at the GRY/RED wire. With they key on and in park you should get voltage at all wire terminals. Key on in reverse you should get voltage at LT BLU/BLK, and YEL/BLK. Key on in neutral you should get voltage at WHT/BLK, and YEL/BLK. Key on in 2 you should have voltage at RED/BLK, and LT BLU/BLK. Key on in 1 you should have voltage at RED/BLK, and WHT/BLK.

Range sensor? that would be a speedometer odometer sensor ! range traveled! you request if for reverse light switch yes? wiring and bulbs not the issue! the switch is located behind and down drivers side head light 1999 model is under battery box must remove to gain entry to switch round plug with flat top 2 wires entering hope this helps.

O/D off flashing, backup lights not work,

The vehicle speed sensor is going bad . That's what is causing erratic shifting an the O/D light flashing .
Lamps, Backup The back-up lamp system consists of:
  • the transmission range (TR) sensor.
  • the back-up lamp bulb(s) located in both rear lamp (13404) assemblies
  • circuit wiring and circuit protection
Circuit protection is provided to the transmission range (TR) sensor through fuse 30 (25A). This fuse is hot in RUN. With the transmission in REVERSE, the switch closes and power is provided to the back-up lamp bulbs through Circuit 140 (BK/PK). Ground is provided to the back up lamp bulbs through Circuit 57 (BK). The range sensor is located on the transmission at the manual lever.

Transmission problem

There are only a few connectors that need plugged in. The first one is the solenoid pack which has eight wires and a bolt that goes through the connector. then the range sensor which will be located by the shifter shaft, will have either round or flat spade like pins. The wiring is the same only difference is the connnector; you may need to get a matching plug if the new one doesn't match your vehicle's harness. Then there are two speed sensor plugs that are small simple push in plugs that have two wires each. You may or may not have a crank sensor to plug in, if you do it will plug in kind of on top of the bell housing more towards the firewall. That should be it.
