Check the alternator to battery wire which is thick. It may have broken some where from the battery, alternator or there may be a joint in between.
Check the battery also. If a blackish powder like deposits are seen around the caps or terminals, it indicates that the battery is at fault.

clean battery terminals ,bring battery to be tested after charging, after reinstalling battery run car and test alternator output it should be a minimum of 13-14volts if it is under 13 replace alternator , use a voltmeter set on 12 volt 10 amp dc to check the wire to check is located on the back of the alternator covered with a rubber grommet of course hold negative wirw on volt meter to ground and touch red wire to big terminal on back of alternator while car is running should have 14 volts or at least 13 volts

Not charging change rectifier still don't charge

the rectifier has nothing to do with the charge rate of an alternator . It simply changes the ac current produced by the alternator into dc for the battery and electronics. If the alternator is still not charging then the regulator would be the thing to change along with the brushes

New battery and alternator, was driving ,lights got dim, then lost power and stalled, started right back up but had no power no lights nothing....went to pick it up, started, drove a bit ,then stalled...

Dirty connection on a main fuse or a possibly even a simple thing like a high resistance on a battery terminal caused by corrosion ,the alternator is charging but when the battery connection plays up then the alternator can only produce a certain amount of power ,use a bit more and it stops like you describe ,start by cleaning the battery terminals with a bit of emery paper and greasing them then refitting the terminals

How to remove a commutator from alt., I want to make an alt. only put out Alternating current

Alternators are just alternators and actually produce alternating (AC) current which is rectified by the diodes in the back of the alternator and so produce direct current(DC) which goes to the battery through the battery terminal on the alternator.. However if you want the alternator to work as an alternator you will need some way of exciting the fields (stator) for it to produce AC current as car alternators do not have permanent magnets in the fields. They actually need a partially charged battery to begin charging with. There is no comutator in an alternator . IT has a rotor with slip rings. So remove a diode from the pack --hook up a battery to the regulator and the battery terminal on the alternator will produce AC current

My battery drains every time I turn the ac on and when I turn it off I charges , there is also a whining noise in the engine thank u

My thoughts is your alternator is going out, but check your belts are not loss or frayed which attach to your alternator first. if your belts seem fine, remove your alternator and have it checked out as it should be producing enough power to keep your battery charged.

1993 dodge caravan, over charging, replace the alternator, was tested and told it was bad, still over charging. Was told that the computer controls the voltage output, do I replace the computer system now,...

The computer has NOTHING to do with the alternator output.
The alternator is self regulating, with diodes, and rectifiers.
If the alternator is over charging it is because your battery is not accepting the charge, so the charger works harder and produces more to charge it, up to a point.
Was the alternator that you installed new or rebuilt ?
It could be another bad alternator.
Please let me know.

yes there is a fuse, labeled alt fuse and its under the hood in the relay fusebox, if the car is not charging, then just check for power to the alternator, the small wire not the big one, good luck,

it seems that your battery is not charging..either you need a replacement or it is a faulty alternator which is not charging the battery.First thing I would suggest is to check if the alternator is producing power by a voltmeter.

Charging problem

If the alternator is wired incorrectly it will kill the alternaor. you need to verify you have the alternator wired correctly. Also, make sure none of the wires have been fraid and are rubbing against metal objects.
