Trans not shifting

Get the transmission reconditioned or fit another reconditioned transmission

There are shift solenoids inside the transmission that aren't working.

hi, it may be the transmission oil, transmission oil LEVEL or and transmission filter.
first check transmission level by starting the engine (ticking over) go through ALL GEARS and check level. this level will (drop from standing idle). NOT ENOUGH FLUID
if the FILTER is partially blocked then not enough fluid reaching the chambers. NOT ENOUGH FLUID.
the fluid may be full of deposits. transmission fluid needs REPLACING and or FILTER.
also check if leaking transmission fluid.
check if lever out of range (worn, can't get to position before end of gear lever travel).
the brake bands may be WORN, or needs adjusting
the KICK-DOWN seams to work. check link-ergs for wear and movement.
the speedo seams to have a BAD CONNECTION (closed circuit connected then open circuit). loose connector. gerry

The 1st>>2nd shift on the Subaru 4EAT automatic transmission can be more abrupt, but 3500 is too high.
Is there any delay when shifting from Park to Drive?
Does the Power light flash on startup? If it does, you can pull the codes by following these instructions.

This trans has 'bands' that can be adjusted. I'm not 100% sure they affect the 1st>2nd gear shift, but maybe they need adjusted.

check the vehicle speed sensor,if ok check the kick down cable setting

I had the same problem, so I added "Trans X" from the auto store, and after a few miles the trans started shifting. Seems gunk get into the shifting mechanism. Also a trans service could be the problem. Should have a trans service every 30k. Keeps trans clean. Try it , it worked for me

Sounds like a tranny valve body problem.There's a down shift cable attatched to the throttle linkage (where the accelerater cable is).That cable may not be adjusted right.However if you dissconnect the cable from the throttle linkage try to pull the cable out to where it stops(it'll retract by itself).Then let it snap back.(repeat a couple times).This may unstick a vavle in the valve body

No there is not a vacuum modulator.

Speed sensor and neutral safety switch need to be checked and or replaced.

check transmission fluid level first if it is full or if it is milky looking or smell cooked change the fluid and filter because the screen in the filter maybe plugged and not allowing the fluid to go to the troque converter
