If this is an ac car you will need to get the correct belt and retreive a routing diagram from autzone or the manual. sometimes the pulleys are different for ac versus non ac and you may have to remove an idler to run the belt

I would start with a belt. While removing it feel how much tension the tensioner has on it, on the 3800 egnine they have a stiff tensioner(sorry I don't have any specs for how much) After you get the belt off you can look at all of the pulleys and spin them to see if the bind or look for stuff stuck in the grooves on the pulleys.
It sounds to me like the belt is streched. I would not recommend one of those gator back belts, they seem to make more noise sooner than a good v notch belt. But thats just my opinion!

Using a socket and breaker bar take the tension off of the belt so you can set it aside. Then take the retainer bolt off that's holding the pulley. If it is a center bolt they are some times threaded backwards (check the direction you pulled when releaving the tension and go the other way). Replace the pulley, replace the belt and job done.

serpentione belt sounds as if it is stretched. first try to reseat serpentine belt. if still a problem then go buy new belt at autozone. also buy some belt dressing. this should fix the problem. if this doesnt solve then you need to buy a new idler arm. relatively easy fix.
