Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have Passat , V6, 2000. the gearbox is automatic. There is a knock just when the Transmisson change from two to three . I changed the solenoids before one month nearly and reprogrammed the transmission and it was ok. before few days the knock appeared and when ever the sound knocks, the sign of ABS will show on dashboard. I changed the front passenger wheel sensor and the ABS module but the knock sound is still there. I'm wondering why this problem when the transmisson change from two to three or gear three to four?

It could be the torque converter. something is failing around that area.

SOURCE: Brakes

I have experienced problems with my Passat, when working on the brakes it is very easy to hit the sensors, these are a push fit, if they are not fully home the light comes on. simply push the sensors until they click home.
On a side issue I have problems with the traction control affecting acceleration in a corner, I traced this to a garage fiting a 60% tyre instead of a 65% tyre
Hope this helps

SOURCE: knocking sound

maybe cv joints. check cv boots to see if torn or look out for grease marks in the area behind front wheel. This would be more clicking noise though and not banging.

If no external leak and the transmission fluid colour looks white, the problem belongs to the automatic gearbox oil cooler. The oil cooler has broke mixing the gearbox oil and coolant causing this milkshake. It's a small radiator core type oil / water heat exchanger. It is cracked inside and transmission oil is mixed with engine coolant. Because the transmission oil pressure is greater than engine coolant pressure, the transmission fluid level drops. See also the coolant colour inside recovery coolant reservoir inder bonnet! It could be like this:
