Can a ford key be checked to see if chip is bad

You can't use a non chip key. You need to get it to a dealer for programming(some locksmiths can do it). Just a note, you need 2 keys for programming on Fords. Receivers don't have to be reprogrammed. You could have a bad wire or plug. All the other computers have to be programmed.
