Question about Ford Ranger

Was at a light 1 day and my 2002 ranger 2.3L 16 valve started running ruff wen i was waiting at the stop light ,wen the light turn green the truck had no power took like 2 miles to reach 40 miles pre hour replaved plugs and wires still the same ,can take #1 plug wire off still runs the same and the same with #4 plug, 1 take off #2or3 plug it dies out ,can i get some help plz!

You could have a bad crankshaft sensor which is not sending a signal to #1 or #4 cylinder to fire or to send fuel to the same cylinder injectors. The fuel injectors can be checked with a Voltmeter or a Noid tester. Noid testers are available on loan from some major Auto parts tool loaner programs.

You probably need a new one of these, Camshaft Position Sensor Ford Ranger 04 05 06 07 08 3.0L OE Motorcraft DU81
was  at a light 1 day and my 2002 ranger 2.3L 16 - b410e7d4-b1ae-48ef-951d-e199af8ebe0b.jpg
cam sensor. this and the crank sensor can fail at any time and put engine in limp mode.

The reason why the service light come on because it is a hard code
not a soft code.

SOURCE: glow plug system will not cycle

Do you have dual fuel tanks? Place the return fuel line from the back of the fuel pump in a bucket and see if it will start. If yes replace the fuel tank switching valve. It may switch supply side ok, but not return side and if so it is plugging the return, which will cause a no start stuation. If it starts running the return line into a bucket replace the switching valve.

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

Try some injector cleaner in order to see if the lean condition improves. Lean conditions can sometimes be caused by o2 sensors or other sensors that are not within specifications.

Just My Experince If The Motor Is Feelin Like Its Choking Out At 50 MPH Have Your Converter Checked Sounds Like Its Plugged Had A few Cars Do That To Me Over The Years I Just Cut Them Out Put In A Piece Of Pipe I Know Thats Illeagle Now But There Used To Be A Day When Ya Could Get Away With It Put Your Hand In Front Of Your Exaust Pipe Feel For The Flow If Ya Can Barely Feel It Its Plugged A V-8 Powered Truck You Should Feel A Good Flow

check for a faulty wire/s to the tacho of a faulty tacho unit
the tacho gets its reading by the ignition impulses so any engine running problems may have been a result of the faulty tacho or wires.

2002 Ford Ranger runs all day starting and stopping the engine, then 1 hour later starts and sputters off after trying to start. Weather was hot and humid but never have had this problem...any ideas??


if its not damaged spark plugs or cables then it could damaged or water in distributor, If there is a black coil it could be losing current wait until night time and start vehicle you will see current light up like a christmas tree

Engine light on? sounds like EGR valve the cross pipe from EGR to air intake plugs causes them to idle rough if eng light not on soon it will surface! good luck hope this helps!
