On a fuel injected vehicle, this could be almost anything. Cold engines require more fuel to start, so the coolant temperature sensor could be bad or sending improper readings to the ECU. The ECU thinking that the engine is hot, might not be injecting enough fuel for cold start. Other fuel related items, the fuel pump might not be up to snuff... the fuel pressure regulator could be going south. The airflow/MAP sensor could be going out. You coudl try taking a few spark plugs out and see if they are fouled with carbon.

Do you have a "service engine soon" light? If you use to much of the starting fluid you can seriously damage the engine and/or sensors.

SOURCE: 1998 Buick Century wont start.

You have a fuel starvation problem, fuel pump, pressure regulator, injectors, any or all of them could be the reason why you are not getting fuel. Someone is going to have to lay hands and eyes on the thing and check it out.

You could try having the fluid changed but beware, if it hasn't been changed in the last 100k miles or so the fresh detergent in the trans fluid can sometimes clean too well and leave you needing a new transmission. If you know it's been over 100k without a fluid change my suggestion would be to keep nursing the trans along and start saving money for a new transmission or a new car.

Sounds like you have a loose connection on a battery cable. loosen the bolt and pull off each end and clean, then replace. When you clean them, make sure you get down to clean metal.
