If your A/C is not working it can sometimes be saved at a reasonable price. You need to check the Freon pressure in the system.
Very minor leaks can be fixed with additives. When you have some remaining pressure your system is still sealed and the parts are not dried out. In a few cases the low pressure cut-off switch can weaken and engage too soon and may need to be replaced.
If you are going to add Freon, use a type containing a conditioner or sealer. Many systems stay full 10 or more years without problems. So if you are gong to add Freon to a low system, you may have limited capacity for the job. A leak must be fixed and a small amount of sealer contained in a Freon mix can accomplish this.
