my wife somehow broke the tailgate handle on my 05 avalanche. i cant even open the tailgate and i dont know how to fix it without spending a ton of cash to the dealership. the plastic latch is not broken but the left side hangs free. i need help please

I am sure you have found your solution by now... but just in case: My wife did the same thing.. you can reach in on the right side and push down on the rod to open. There are aftermarket handles available on ebay and other sources for around $35. I am currently searching install instructions as I just got mine in today.
