Take it to an after market shop that specialises in chips for the CPU and have it up graded to what you want. You may be able to get Mazda Service department to up grade the CPU settings it the system has been set up to allow it.

SOURCE: Bad fuel consumptin

good thinking. plugs/wires/air and fuel filter/
if auto trans fluid and filter there to. Check tires and pressure (we forget that affects fuel)
Never hurts to clean injectors.
If you can choke out the extra bucs, use full sythetic oil.

P1250 and P1569 codes. Engine still running rough after complete tuneup. What should I check now. Any Mcguyver fixes? 2002 Mazda Protege5

1250 is the fuel pressure regulator and 1569 is variable timing control solenoid. Both will cause rough running. I would check the regulator out first.

Black smoke at start the engine

Mostly likely an overly rich mixture, check for high fuel pressure and your fuel regulator for leaks. A good tuneup might be in order also, and clean the throttle body.

How long has it been since the spark plugs were changed? Sounds like a good tuneup is in order. New spark plugs(try the new E3 plugs, expensive, but worthit), Air filter, fuel filter, injector cleaner in gas tank.
