SOURCE: left & right brake light not on

Could be the brake switch that is mounted to the brake pedal area. Check if you have voltage out from there when brakes are applied, there may be two leads one for the high mount and one for regular brake lights.

SOURCE: high mount brake light works but the regular brake

Same circuit feeds both so I would check the bulbs by replacement and put a meter across the supply line

How do I replace the high mount brake light on my 2011 Chevy Malibu?

You need to take the back seat out. Remove the C-Pillar trim panels. Lift up on the package shelf. Unplug the wiring connector. I've had mine out when I changed the speakers.

BTW, Its Not a Bulb. Its a LED Assembly. Replaced as a whole unit. Unless your good with electronics and soldering.

Why 2009 Hyundai accent brake lights on with headlights, off without?

If all the brake lights come on ( including high mount ) with the headlights there is most likely a short somewhere. Have any of the park/brake light bulbs been changed recently. If so a bulb may be installed incorrectly or the wrong bulb application used.

High mount and right rear brake light out. high mount is blown but the other 3 are fine. Can the high mount prevent the other brake light from functioning?

Nope, high mount comes directly from the brake switch, the other two come from the brake switch to the turn signal switch then to the back, seen a couple of the circuit boards bad in the tail lamps, if one side is working good try plugging the good side into the other side and see if it still works, if so its the tail light.. P.S. if vehicle has trailer wiring double check that too, usually that's a huge issue...

Usually there isn't a fuse.....It is wired into the other two brake lights.....Its probably your bulb that has burnt out

No brake lights check fuses no blown fuses but the center brake light work

If the center high mount brake light comes on when brake pedal is depressed, and the rear brakes don`t come on, and the fuses are not blown, then I would replace the rear bulbs.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BULB FOR THE HIGH MOUNT STOP LIGHT?

From the Owners Manual

Here's what the Owners Manual has to say about the high-mount brake light replacement:

  1. Pry the light assembly away from its housing and push rearward to disengage it from the retaining clips.
  2. Lift the front of the light assembly from the parcel shelf
  3. Disconnect the light assembly wiring and replace the light assembly.

Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Before installing the lens, make sure the brake light operates properly by having an assistant depress the brake pedal.
