Question about 1997 Lincoln Town Car
Experiencing high idle. Unplugged IAC connector. Idle returned to normal. Replaced IAC. Still experiencing fast idle. Checked MAF. Ok. Looking fo ideas to check next.

SOURCE: high idle miss fire
check that routing of your throttle cable going to the top of the engine, sounds like it may be dry (no lube) or kinked somewhere. also check for a bent bracket where it would go through.

your ECU is faulty.
New ECU and voila problem fixed
ohh ECU= engine control unit
secondhand with do just fine.
get it fitted by professional

I"d lean toward the dirstributor itself. You were right to check the timing but a balky distributor would cause occaisional mis-fires. Apart from that, the timing chain itself would be the next likely culprit.
