SOURCE: high idle miss fire

check that routing of your throttle cable going to the top of the engine, sounds like it may be dry (no lube) or kinked somewhere. also check for a bent bracket where it would go through.

SOURCE: 1979 Lincoln Continental Town car has a rough idle

I"d lean toward the dirstributor itself. You were right to check the timing but a balky distributor would cause occaisional mis-fires. Apart from that, the timing chain itself would be the next likely culprit.

The idiling i to high how do i locate it to adjust it

Most vehicles today have no idle adjustment capability. It is controlled by the PCM. That said, if the idle is too fast, then there are usually other problems causing it. A bad idle air control solenoid (IAC) or Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) can be the cause, as could an intake manifold leak, or on vehicle with a MAF sensor, air leaks between the MAF and the intake manifold. Not all cars have all of these different devices. We would need more information to narrow down the possibilities.

97 bmw 318ti mass airflow sensor diagnose code P1140 comes when starting the car i replaced maf problem still exists checked hoses all okay,

The p1140/121 code indicates the MAF was not as expected compared with values from IAT, TPS, CTS, IAC command, and RPM. Meaning all THOSE sensors and the IAC solenoid position data have to be working and in normal range for the MAF to test normal and not code. Further, any vacuum leaks will ruin the MAFs accuracy when compared to the others, as will a PCV/CCV problem.
If you lobbed a MAF at it have already done the least likely and most expensive part. You really need to look at data and see what the DME sees. Is throttle showing closed at idle, is air temp normal? Is RPM under 725 idling, does it flare idle up and down in 10 seconds. is there any vacuum leakage anywhere? even a small amount can make a code level of difference?. Intakes leak a fair amount. CCV valves much more likely to leak, as are the hoses to it. TPSs dont fail that often but can. IACs usually code when they fail...but they could plug up and not code but have improper air bypass that affects the MAF reading. Throttle cables/adjustment is critical...keep that high on priority list.

Hi, I have tried to chat with you but it don't seem to be working at the moment.
I have found the TSB for the intermittent high idle on deceleration and it requires a modification of the PCM to be carried out. This can only be done at a Ford dealer you will then add a modified sticker to the vehicle as it will adjust the emissions etc.
Let me know if you need further information.

If this is something that occured all of the sudden, unplug the vacuum hose from the vacuum booster behind the brake master cylinder. Plug the hose and see if the idle settles down. If it does, replace the brake booster. Let me know, also, what codes have been pulled?

The idle is electronically adjusted by the ECM with the IAC (idle air control) valve which is located in the throttle body. Then the IAC get's to dirty from carbon build up, it can cause what your experiencing
Start with cleaning the throttle body, paying attention to the IAC passageway to try to clean the IAC. If this does not fix the issues, you may have to replace the IAC if it is to dirty to clean.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck, do not use carb cleaner, the carburetor cleaner is to corrosive to the gaskets used on the throttle body's. .

2001 Toyota 4runner idle rpm is too low

Hi Seanmcm21,
More than likely the low idle you are experiencing is caused by a dirty IAC valve located right under the throttle body itself. It needs to be cleaned out with carb cleaner. Remove the electrical connector, the two vacuum hoses, and two screws. To put it back, use a little sealant to seal it before screwing it back together but do not get the sealant inside the IAC valve. If this 4 Runner is a V6, you may need to replace the spark plugs if old. Make sure to purchase twin electrode NGK or Denso spark plugs and gap them to .043 with a gapper.

CAr idles fast - sucks up gas and will shut off periodically.

If it has a high idle I would say that the iac (idle air control) valve is bad and needs replaced. It should be located on the throttle body.

4.3 Liter V-6 Idles rough when in gear, runs fine on highway.

Can you check fuel trims at idle and under load?
If fuel trim is high at low speed and load, look for a vacuum leak.
If fuel trim is high at high speed and loads, look for fuel volumn problem or restriction.
If fuel trim is high at all speeds and loads look for pcm input fault, maybe a maf sensor problem?
If fuel trim is negative low speed and load, look for fuel pressure regulator or injector leak. If fuel trim is negative at all speeds and loads check ect and iac.

If you have the spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems. key on engine off, 60--66 psi fuel pressure.
