Question about 1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The car vibrates and runs rough when I start, most times, and when hot or cold. If I drive straight off, a few hundred yards down the road I get a sudden reduction in acceleration. Sometimes, it is so bad that it I have to move to the side to let other vehicles pass; it will not pick up if I give it more gas and acts like it can't breathe, rattling the exhaust. After 30 seconds or so, it picks up and then runs smooth for the remainder of my journey; it never stalls.
Quick fix: I rev it to 2000 rpm for 5 seconds and the roughness goes away and it runs smooth every time with no loss of acceleration down the road.
Never had any other problems with this car and is serviced as per the MB schedule. Its a 98' now with about 93k miles.
Put some fuel injector cleaner in but that didnt make any difference.
Check the cable near the abs modulator. Some C180, C200 have short circuit from broken insulators
