Question about 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

I replaced the cv axle, wheel hub, caliper, both front rotors and both sets front and rear pads. After extensive bleeding In excess of 20x) in a rotation from MC to RR,LR,FR,FL, I get a great brake peddle until I turn the car on. Car will stop but not before the pedal goes all the way down and the brake light comes on. Any Ideas?

You have to activate ABS module pump and bleed again

What happens is if you have a bad front wheel bearing when you brake that wheel will turn in or out,when this happens it throws the four wheel alignment out and since this is a solid rear axle,it's forcing it to flex on the suspension,wich could cause the rear tires to bite on the outside edge of one tire and the inside edge of the other,thats one possible the other would be that the rear brakes are are not slowing the wheels evenly causing the same issue.I saw this problem with a bad front wheel bearing on a Nissan Pathfinder but not as pronouced due to the independent rear suspension. Check the front wheel bearings,which of course will mean getting the calipers off the rotors,and then check for any movement in the rotor,if there is check the hub nut,if it's loose tighten it and check for play in the rotor if there is still play that's going to be caused by a bad bearing.You can check the braking in the rear with a simple spring scale(like the ones used for fishing),with the wheels removed have someone apply enough pedal pressure to just engage the brakes but still allow movement attach the scale hook to a wheel stud and pull until it starts to move and note how many pounds of pressure it takes to move the hub.If it's uneven chech your adjusters and even them if needed and then retest,if still uneven you'll need to bleed them again.As far as the dark black substance in the fluid I would say you may gotten a contaminent in the fluid.Brake fluid gets kind of a rusty reddish residue when it breaks down.If I missed anything or you need clarification don't hesitate to ask I'm home all day.Hope this helps solve your problem.

Try having the dealer flush and bleed your system. It is very hard to bleed ABS systems yourself and have safe brakes that still work afterward. Bleeding non-ABS brakes yourself is easy not the same for ABS brakes. Valving, sensors and what-not require a tech and the correct equipment in my opinion. You do it wrong and you could ruin your ABS system. Do that and see if they firm up. I replaced my brake shoes/pads at the same time all new everything in back, drums/springs everything and new rotors up front. then I had the chevy dealer flush, refill and bleed system. Stiffer pedal and brakes work better. Keep in mind the brakes on 99 Tahoes are inaedequate, require new rotors often, heat up and fade/glaze pads regularly. I replace my pads long before they wear down because they glaze up and start fading early. I'll rough em up once maybe, next time, new ones. Every two brake jobs, new rotors for me. Just how it is. They will stiffen a bit and work better but they will never be awesome brakes. Just how it is on 99 and earlier Tahoes. Hope it helps. Very important to bleed correctly though. I'll bleed my 83 Toyota 4x4 myself but not the Tahoe.

you have to bleed all four calipers,start with the tire farthest from master cylinder,next farthest,then next farthest,then last one.keep checking brake fluid in master cylinder as you do each one.

try bleeding your ABS block first, if that doesn not work could need a master or proportioning vavle. Some scan tools are capable of bleeding the ABS system on some vehicles, and some you have to bleed manually.

How do I replace a front wheel bearing?

front wheel bearing is pressed into hub and has retaining clip on rear and then cv axle shaft comes through center and has a nut and keeper pin. Rule of thumb is to replace both front wheel bearings at same time. raise front of vehicle place on jackstands for safety remove front wheels remove brake calipers remove front rotors and cv axles remove steering hub assy from lower ball joint,tie rod end and struts take hub to shop and have bearing pressed out have new bearings pressed in reassemble front wheels in reverse order of disassembly.

I am trying to replace the rear drivers side wheel bearing and hub assembly combined. I have having problems removing the hub assembly already on the car. What do i need to do to fix this problem

Remove offending wheel and set park brake extremely tight. Remove brake pads from caliper, and then unbolt caliper. Release the park brake. Unbolt the heater supply tube. Remove six 8mm hex bolts on the CV joint near the transmission. Remove axle. Remove four bolts on outside of housing that hold the 2 bearing race retainers. Reinstall new bearing into the housing... again this will require the EBS tool, and of course you'll have to rearrange the parts of the tool. Once the new bearing is installed, reinstall the bearing race retainers and the four screws that hold the retainers. Carefully reinstall the axle, making sure not to push the hub out of the bearing again.Reinstall six 8mm hex bolts holding the CV joint to the transmission. Reinstall rotor then set parking brake extremely tight.Reinstall brake caliper andl brake pads. Reinstall heater supply tube and wheel, torque wheel bolts to 96 ft-lbs, re-install transmission cover and suspension cover. Here you can find the quality parts

Rotors keep warping

Could be a number of problems. Here are a few.

Defective Brake Pads
  • Brake pads that are defective and/or incorrectly installed can, over time, cause brake rotors to warp and become damaged. Brake pads are responsible for squeezing against the spinning brake rotor, an action that causes a vehicle to slow down or stop. If the brake pads are bent, misshapen in any way, or aligned and/or installed abnormally, they can exert abnormal pressure on the brake rotors, a condition that can cause brake rotor warpage over time.

  • Abnormal Brake Caliper Action
  • An abnormal or malfunctioning brake caliper can result in brake rotor warpage if the degree of brake caliper dysfunction is severe enough. A brake caliper houses a set of vehicle brake pads and provides the squeezing force necessary to squeeze the brake pads against the spinning brake rotor. If a brake caliper applies too much pressure to the brake pads, or if it applies pressure inconsistently, it can cause a brake rotor to warp over time. Adequate brake caliper action is necessary for optimizing brake pad and brake rotor function.

  • Excessive Heat
  • A vehicle's braking system generates a tremendous amount of friction-related heat, heat that normally gets radiated away from the brake pads and brake rotor mechanisms. However, in cases where excessive heat is generated within a braking system and not dispersed adequately, serious brake malfunctions can occur, which can include brake rotor warpage. A stuck brake caliper, old, worn-down brake pads, or a defective brake rotor can cause excessive heat to develop in or around a brake rotor, which can cause brake rotor damage and warpage.

  • Damanged Wheel Hub Spindle
  • A brake rotor assembly is supported by and rides on a long, slender metal tube called a hub, or wheel hub assembly. The hub is what allows for the smooth, even circular motion of the spinning brake rotor. Designed with a smooth, low-friction exterior, the wheel hub assembly is critical to the proper spinning motion of the brake rotor. Any abnormalities or defects with the wheel hub assembly, including hub warpage, cracking or misalignment, can cause abnormal brake rotor rotation, which in turn can cause brake rotor warpage over time. Normally, a damaged wheel hub assembly is noticed and remedied prior to extensive brake rotor damage, as a severely damaged wheel hub assembly will cause a vehicle tire to wobble and shake.

    How to change brake pad and check rotors

    To Remove:
    1. Drain brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.
    2. Remove the front wheels. toy_car_cam_frontbrakepads.gif

    3. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
    4. Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of the 2 brake pads.
    5. Remove the wear indicator from each of the 2 brake pads.
    To Install:
    NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

    1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press piston into the caliper.
    2. Apply disc brake grease to the inside of each anti-squeal shim.
    3. Install the anti-squeal shims on each pad.
    4. Install the pad wear indicator clip to the pads.
    5. Install the pads with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
    6. Install the brake caliper with the 2 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
    7. Install the front wheels.
    8. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
    9. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.

    To Remove:

    4. Remove the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
    5. Remove the rear brake calipers.
    6. Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.
    7. Remove the anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicators from brake pads.
    To Install:
    1. Using a large C clamp or equivalent press the piston into the caliper.
    2. Coat both sides of the outer anti-squeal shim with pad grease.
    3. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
    4. Install wear indicators on the 2 brake pads.
    5. Install the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
    6. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
      • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
      • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
    7. Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
    8. Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
    9. Install the rear wheels.

    1. Remove the front wheels.
    2. Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
    3. Remove the front brake pads.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts and caliper mounting bracket.
    5. Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
    6. Remove the front wheel disc.
    To Install:
    1. Align the match marks and install the front disc.
    2. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
    3. Install the brake caliper. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
    4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
    5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
    6. Bleed the brake system.
    7. Install the front wheel.
    Rear To Remove:
    1. Remove the rear wheels.
    2. Remove the brake caliper assembly.
    3. Remove the brake pads.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.
    5. Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
    6. Remove the rear disc.
    To Install:
    1. Align the match marks and install the rear disc.
    2. Install the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
      • TMC made (Japan): Torque the bracket bolt 46 ft-lb (61.8 Nm)
      • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the bracket bolt 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
    3. Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
      • TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
      • TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 32 ft-lb (43 Nm)
    4. Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
    5. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
    6. Bleed the brake system.
    7. Install the rear wheel

    How to change CV joint mazda 323 mod 1991

    In order to change the cv joint, you will need to remove the wheel and the brake caliper and rotor. Raise vehicle on jack stands. Remove the wheel and remove the brake pads and caliper. Tie the caliper up out of the way, do not disconnect the brake line attached. Once the caliper is removed, slide the rotor off. Using the correct size socket, remove the nut in center of hub. Some vehicles have a kotter pin in the shaft just in front of nut. If so, remove pin before nut. Next, you will need to loosen a few bolts that hold the strut to the hub assembly. Once you have hub free from strut, turn the hub either left or right while having someone push in on the cv joint while turning joint left or right. Doing so will allow the joint to slide out of hub. Next, using a pry bar, insert between end of transaxle and transmission and pry out. To install new axle, align the axle with transmission and slide into transmission. Carefully work the other end of axle into the center of the hub assembly. Once you have it in the hub, tap gently with a rubber mallet until you hear it "pop" into transmission. Once it is in transmission, replace the bolts connecting the hub to strut. Replace nut on center or cv joint and tighten just until it seats against the not overtighten. Replace kotter pin with new pin. Slide the rotor over the studs, replace caliper and brake pads, install wheel and you are done.

    Did you have the rotors turned? Did you check for rotor runout? Did you remove all rust from hub face and rotor mounting surface? Did you remove rust from caliper or pad slides? Lube all caliper and pad sliding surfaces? Are the pads application specific? Did you flush and bleed the fluid? Did you torque the wheels properly?

    How to remove rear brakes on 2001 dodge caravan

    Things You'll Need:
    • Floor jack Jack stand Wheel chock 1/2-inch drive breaking bar 1/2-inch drive socket set 1/2-inch drive ratchet C-clamp Bungee cord Flathead screwdriver Ball peen hammer Handheld portable propane torch (optional) Medium grade sand paper or emery cloth Anti-seize lubricant.
    1. Park the Dodge Caravan on a level paved or concrete surface.2
    2. Place a wheel chock in front of one of the front tires.3
    3. Break the lug nuts loose on the reartires.4
    4. Lift one side of the rear axle of theCaravan using the floor jack and place a jack stand under the rear axle.5
    5. Remove the lug nuts and tire.6
    6. Remove the caliper bolts using the ratchet and a socket. Remove the pads from the caliper starting with the outboard pad and pry it from the caliper housing with a flathead screwdriver. Remove the inboard pad and compress the piston of the caliper in using the C-clamp. Replace the pads. Hang the caliper to the frame using the bungee cord.
    7. Remove the caliper anchor bolts using the ratchet and a socket.8
    8. Remove any retaining rings on the hub of the rotor around the studs. Pry them off with the screwdriver and discard them. You will not need them for reinstallation.
    9. Strike the fin of the rotor on the edge using the ball peen hammer. Spin the rotor and strike it often and from the inside of the tire well moving out. Use as much force as necessary. If the rotor still does not want to come off (rare cases) light up the portable propane torch and apply a liberal amount of heat to the hub of rotor around the lug studs and strike with the hammer to shock it from the hub.0Sand down the hub facing with a medium grade sandpaper or emery cloth once the rotor has been removed and the hub has cooled down if you had to use the torch. Sand down the edges of the hub as well.
    10. Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricant to the edge of the hub and this will help in the future when the rotor needs to be removed again for whatever reason.
    11. Replace the parts in reverse procedure and repeat the steps for the other side.

    you have to replace bearing and hub as a have to remove remove brakes and caliper rotor set them aside dont disconnect brake line. get a piece of clothes rack wire to hold brake caliper .do not let it hang by brake hose. you got to remove hub nut. best way to do that is loosen it a litttle while tire still on weight of car keep wheel from turning .

    Rear axle bearing replacement


    Removal Procedure
    1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting in General Diagnosis.
    2. Remove the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
      1. Remove and support the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Brakes.
      2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
      3. Remove the ABS sensor wire connector.
      4. Remove the four bolts from the control arm.
      5. Remove the hub and bearing from the control arm.
      6. Remove the brake shield from the control arm.
      7. Clean the control arm face and the bore before installing the hub and the bearing.
      Installation Procedure

      Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
      1. Install the brake shield and the hub and the bearing to the control arm with the four bolts. Be careful not to drop the hub and the bearing, as it could be damaged. Reconnect the ABS sensor. Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
      2. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
      3. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Disc Brakes.
      4. Install the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment. Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
      5. Lower the vehicle.
