Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 4cyl engine. I replaced the fuel filter and it is still not getting any gas up to the front. I think it is the fuel pump, because the fuses and relays are good, but I have a friend that works on cars who says to replace the ignition module under the coil pack. Does the ignition module control the fuel pump in the tank?

No but the ignition module control the primary circuit of coil but at the same time tell PCM the engine rpm and then give signal to injector to spray
do you hear the pump working while key on engine off for 2 sec then while cranking have someone listen at tank fuel cap off

Hi

Have you checked the EGR valve, and or the air flow sensor? both could cause it not to start!

Also ensure the earth battery lead has a good connection to the car body from the battery.

Please get back to me if your unsure about these parts.

Regards
Dan

How do I change the fuel filter on 1996 chevy cavalier?

The filter should be in the fuel line under the car between the gas tank and the engine.
On some models it is in the engine compartment, and on others it is in front of the gas tank.
You squeeze a clip together on one end and the other end has a threaded pipe nut.
Make sure you release the pressure in the line before you take the line loose.

Trace the power source from fuse to relay etc and make sure pump is working. if all checks out then check pump working and for preasue at engine. you may have a dammaged fuel line from the tank which would also cause the same problem

A 2003 Impala has a 3.4 or a 3.8 engine.
The fuel filter should be under the car in the fuel line between the tank and the engine.

While driving my 2003 chevy cavalier the engine will die right before the car comes to a complete stop. Sometimes at happens at low speeds when not giving any gas.

it sounds like a dirty throttle body. Just spray clean with throttle body cleaner. Or it could be a plugged air filter...not getting enough air. Or possible fuel filter needs to be changed.

may be your fuel pump or the fuse for your fuel pump.turn the key on and if fuel pump is working you should hear a short low humming noise.that is the fuel pump sending gas to your engine. If you dont hear that noise, that may be your problem

2003 Chevy Cavalier not starting

When you turn the key, you should hear the fuel pump make a whiring noise as it dispenses the fuel. If there is no noise. the fuel pump is not working.

Have you checked the fuel shutoff inertia switch.?
Check your owners manual for location.
