Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 1987 Nissan maxima will not stay running. It starts good, idles good for a few seconds and dies on its own. Fuel pump seems to work fine. replaced fuel pressure regulator, Oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, air mass flow sensor and still doesn't stay running. Checked fuel and air filter already. Sometimes when I persist on the accelerator, it manages to keep running very rough but it eventually dies, it acts like is running out of gas but it has plenty of fuel. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I think this car has a vaccum activated fuel pressure regulator could be your problem also a large vac leak would do this as well

SOURCE: car runs rough at idle

clean out ur throttle body, just follow the hose from the air filter to the throttle body. Need 2 people to do this. Don't remove the hose completely from the throttle body. Just enuff to be able to spray ur intake cleaner into the throttle body. Do this especially if its worse when the motor is hot, as this would confirm the problem.

SOURCE: Car starts, runs a few seconds then stops.

did you spray the maf sensor or intake hole ?if you didnt spray maf then probly not! have some one turn the key why you listen in the fill gas hole for pump noise ? sould here somthing for 2 seconds at least besure you ear is there before key is turned , also check you ecu fuse to see if it may be blown .? also you could try unhooking battery cable for 20 minutes neg side only then rehook it and try to start it! good luck

2012 maxima will start, but won't idle and dies after a few seconds. Has been running perfectly until this morning.

Check the fuel lines and unions for small air leaks (smell of fuel) also check fuel filters for partial blockages P.S CHECK THE FUEL GAUGE FIRST.

Starts dies

an alternator won't stall your car, the battery provides power to keep the spark going. It sounds like you could have some bad fuel, if you're able to run the throttle manually with your foot and keep it going that would indicate idle control. but if it stalls still when you are giving it gas. I would guess a fuel supply issue, either water in your gas, or fuel pump. Good Luck.

Starts but runs ruff then dies

Hi Glean, Sounds as if you have a problem with the fuel pump or possibly the air flow sensor. Take the vehicle for a scan and if no fault codes show up suspect the pump. Regards John

My 92 maxima se just died as i was driving it.i put gas in it and it ran for 2 miles then died again

could be a fuel pump. hammer on the gas tank and see if it tries to start. if not then spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into the air intake and see if it starts and runs for a few seconds if so your looking at a bad fuel pump most likely.

My Mazda mx3 starts up idles for a couple seconds then dies.

Before you replace the fuel pump, I would check the cheaiper parts first. Such as fuel filter and injectors.

1987 k-5 blazer cranks and starts but won't stay running

Sounds like a large vacuum leak, low fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator failure, idle air control valve stuck open, plugged fuel filter. Also check for good consistent blue spark at spark plugs or jumped timing chain.Hope this helps!
