Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Was driving down highway and everything went dead. engine died, headlights went off, power breaks and sterring quit as well. Pulled off to side of road. turned off key. turn on flashers they worked , turned on head lights they worked, tried to restart engine, would turn over but, no fire. Could this be problem with timing belt.

It is possible but start with the basics. are you getting fuel to the engine? the fuel pump may have quit. spark at the plugs? if you don't know how to do this youtube this someone will have a good video to watch.

Re: 2005 Kia Rio Wagon. Driving down the highway, car just decided to stop working. Will not start again. Have replaced the starter with a brand new starter still not working. All you can hear is

Well, to begin with, the LAST thing I would replace if a vehicle died going down the highway is the starter. What caused the engine to die? It certainly was not the starter!
If the starter will not crank the engine over, you probably have a dead battery. If your battery went dead while driving the vehicle down the road, you most likely have a bad alternator. However, it is really hard to say without actually being able to see the car.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited edition 4.7 liter V8 2wd. Recently it has just died whilst driving on the highway 40mph city driving. It just died quickly and all the gauges went dead like...

The first thing I would check is to make sure battery is securely tied down, cables are connected, and in good shape. Sounds basic but it has caused this problem for many of us.

What would cause my vue to lose power & die on the highway

that will not make your car to quit running. vue had problem with ignition module. it's easy to replace and it's right on top of the engine. a small, flat almost square silver box on the top of engine.

ok, try cleaning the battery posts, and if its older then three years change the battery. Once everything is ok check the charging system of the vehicle. The reason your power steering/brakes went out is the engine was off, power sterring works of a pulley on the engine and the power booster for the brakes works off the engine vacuum.

Gauges go crazy while driving

Sounds like a faulty body control module, or the forward control module. Possibly the cluster is going bad. Is it still under warranty? Take it to the dealer, which you may have to do anyway.
