Question about Jaguar X-Type

2 Answers

2003 jaguar x-type 3.0 I keep getting check engine light and inop cruise control displayed at seemingly random times and under accel. when message shows, engine will sound slightly different and weak almost like limp mode. cruise control still works fine too. under moderate accel it will start to **** pretty violently almost like a grabbing clutch(isn't) or vacuum hose problem(maybe, but intermittent?). i took 2 years automotive technology and a few years in a shop so don't be afraid to get tech with me. My plan is to pull the codes and see what i get so my two questions: Do you know a good bang-4-your-buck connector to pull codes to a laptop. i really don't need extras but i'd like to atleast be able to see and delete codes ...the basics Any suggestions? heard anything like this? I worked really hard to get this car and even paid more than i should have but i love it and would like to give it to my kids some day but it needs to survive that long...any help is appreciated. Thanx for your time

You may be getting this message because air is getting into the throttle body flap due to a buildup of varnish. It is not closing all the way and sending conflicting messages to the electronics. I would clean the flap with carb cleaner, wiggle the throttle while cleaning and then disconnect the battery for a while. Reconnect the battery and see if she don't run like the wind my friend.

If that throttlebody flap gets dirty then you will notice the tach jumpimping up and down on idle. You will also notice that if you have the air conditioner on when you come to a stop sign the whole shebang goes dead. You could go ahead and blow some money by letting a shop FIX it. But if you had a spy cam you would see that what I describe is what they will do. HaHa special coating on the flap. Wild.

Do you have access to a good OBD-II reader with live data readout?

The key is to get to the short term fuel trim information.

You has a vacuum leak on the engine.

In order to troubleshoot this, you must start with a clean engine wipe down.

The major offender parts are

air intake gasket on the manifold

air tube after the mass air flow sensor

rubber seal under idle air control IAC motor

===

Warm up the engine for 15-20 minutes (LEAVE THE engine at idle) then spray a little Barmen carburetor clear on the potential air leak location (ONE AT A TIME) and listen for a surge in rpm.

If the engine speed go higher that's mean the carburetor cleaner (ADDITIONAL FUEL) got into your engine and that's the gasket you need to change.

There may be multiple leaky spots so take your time and check all rubber gaskets, sensor and hose that are lead into the intake manifold.

When you finish fill up with one tank of Chervon to clean out the injectors.

Try to get a toque wrench and tighten ever bolt on the valve cover back to specification. If you can not get hold of one then just give each bolt a gentle 1/6 turn.

Please post more information after your inspection.

2003 GTI 1.8T ESP light on and cruise control inoperative.

If the ESP light on the touran stayys on pernamently then it is extremely likely that the ABS control unit is faulty. Its a common problem with tourans, unfortunately the part alone is about £1000.

2002 X-type Jaguar with 2.6 -- check engine light came on

My 2002 x-type did the exact same thing on many occasions and had many repeated trips to the dealership. This problem was ultimately cased by cracked hoses in the car's vacuum system (which is used in the cruise control and brakes). Have the dealer check the vacuum lines and the breather hose (mine had completely collapsed). Chances are they are leaking and causing your car to "buck" and the cruise to not work. Don't ignore this as it will affect the functionality of your brakes too over the longer term.

Check engine light code p1603

When I went outside to start my Jaguar X-Type it was cold outside. I was in a hurry and didn't let the car warm up properly. It jumped a bit then the check engine light came on along with a message that said No cruise control. The no cruise light came off but my check engine light is still on. Any suggestions as to what it may be?
