there are two pins one on each side that lock, you have to stick a small screw driver under each one to open them from the filter side. It is easier to remove the filter from the bracket

SOURCE: where is fuel filter located in a kia sportage

The fuel filter is bolted to the frame rail below right of the battery. It is cylinder shaped and has a fuel line at each end.
Procedure for removing it:
Find the fuel tank access plate under the rear seat. With the engine idling disconnect the fuel pump wiring harness and let the engine stall. This relieves the fuel pressure.
The lines on the fuel filter itself are "quick connect" fittings. Depress the tabs on the fuel line and push TOWARDS the filter. The line should pop off. It's difficult to depress the tabs and you CAN use a pair of pliers but be careful or you'll damage the fitting.
Reverse to install new filter. Reconnect fuel pump, start the engine, and check for leaks.

Where is the fuel filter located on 1999 kia sportage

the filter should be immediately above or beside the fuel tank, just after the fuel line leaves the top of the tank. Look at the diagrams attached. 2b03c06a-aee1-454b-908b-a286dd149035.jpg 624788bd-b4b7-4f27-98bc-7a315842908a.gif

2000 kia sportage troubleshooting choking out

the most common problem on this year sportage for rough running/stalling or not starting is clogged fuel injectors caused by a rusty fuel tank. Their is a recall for this. You can remove the fuel filter and drain the fuel into a clear container by blowing into the outlet of the filter. This will put unfiltered fuel into the container to look at. If it is rust colored you will need a fuel tank, fuel filter and injectors. The fuel lines will need to be flushed as well. Another common problem causing this condition is a broken crankshaft keyway. this causes the crankshaft to be out of time with the timing belt sprocket. If you check the timing marks everything will look good. To check this you need to put the timing marks on TDC cylinder number 1 and make sure that the piston is truly at top dead center.

Engine runs ruff idles low up and down. already replaced throttle position switch

Their are several posibilities for this type of concern. Some of the common ones for this year Sportage are. 1. a vacuum leak. 2. Clogged injectors due to a rusty gas tank. ( their is a recall for this) 3. Cam timing jumped.
The easiest one to check first is for a vacuum leak. You can use a spray bottle with soapy water to spray on the vacuum lines and intake. If it smooths out or you see the water get "sucked in" to the area that you sprayed you found your problem. The next easiest one to check for is the rust in fuel.
Remove the fuel filter and drain the fuel into a cup by blowing thru the outlet of the filter.
