Many times actions like these are a result of O2 sensors recalibrating fuel mix or the transfer of operating duties from one computer to another.

In some systems the initial run sequence is controlled by one system and then transferred to a second computer. If there is a bad connector or the second computer is bad, the vehicle will not continue running.

What causes my 2002 avalanche to die after it runs for a few seconds

Loss of fuel pressure, loss of spark is likely. What you need to do is have the fault codes in the memory of the engine control computer. You will need an OBD2 fault code reader, it hooks to the diagnostic link port under the dash in front of the driver.

93 toyota pickup 4x4 it will stay running after I turn it on to start it up, it starts up then after a few seconds it kills

if I'm reading this right...
... the engine starts and dies within a few seconds.
... you jumpered the fuel pump test connector and it will keep running.
... you smell fuel after trying to re-start when it dies.

Disconnect the plug to the cold start injector. Even if you have an issue with the engine running then dying after a few seconds after doing this, if you don't smell fuel after disconnecting the cold start injector and try to restart it, the cold start time injector time switch may be failing.

Buy a can of starting fluid and have someone start the engine then spray short bursts of the fluid around all the intake fittings. If spraying the fluid in any particular area keeps the engine running, I'd start looking for leaks around that area.

It does sound like an AFM or COR issue considering it dies after a few seconds, but the fuel smell when trying to restart the engine may be a separate issue that needs corrected / isolated first.it will keep running.

My 2003 chevy cavaliel will start but the dies after a few secons what could cause this

I do know that when your antitheft system fails, you will get exactly what you have. Turn key, starts for 1-5 seconds, then stalls. This will be followed by a light illuminating on your dash that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT. If you see this light, go to this link for help.

The car will run for a few seconds and then die

possibly a clogged fuel filter, or the pick up in the tank is dirty.
