I need to know how long it ran before it died, and how hard it was shaking. Just the engine, shaking the car, or just in the sound.

Sounds like there is either a coil pack is gone or you broke a cam. A good way to check this is to pull the spark plugs one at a time and see which ones are not firing. at an idle. Another thing it could be is a backwards wire. You may have 2 plugs hooked up backwards. That will turn the passenger compartment into a martini shaker. The higher you rev the engine the smoother it gets. I would love to hear the engine so I could give you a more accurate diagnosis. But I'll keep trying as long as you keep writing. Fair enough?
A camshaft is a rod with lobes on it which control the valves. If you broke it, then whatever cyliders are behind the break is not getting or moving any air. And what it does is causes a strain point on your engine, cylinders are dead and only compressing air. It will make the engine run so rough that it is impossible to not notice. It just sounds and performs way wrong. A dirty filter will also make it act like what your saying, but not as bad as a cam. The filter will almost always make you run hot at this stage, and will give you next to no power. And sucking up the last of the gas can get alot of sediment in there. It would definitely be a good, and least expensive place to start. My apologies, I assumed that you already tried that.
